“Fish n' Chips”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 October 2013

Went to Zed Tuesday 29 / 10 the welcome was extremely friendly, the waiter was attentive, friendy and had a good product knowledge. we both ordered the Fish and Chips which consisted of two very small pieces of white fish (Cod?) that had been literally lathered in batter and arrived on the plate looking like two dark brown turds. the 'Chips' were an assemblage of thin (shoestring) fries which had absolutely no resemblance to English 'Chips' all in all a catastrophic fail on the fish and chips.
The redeeming values are the ambiance, 4 star, the waiter excellent ... I would even give it a second try with something else on the menu...

Mr. Zed, get the fish 'n chips off the menu.... you, and the rest of the US cannot do a decent fish 'n chips.

Curiously enough, the best so far in Austin is the Fish 'n Chips at Red Robin. Just nip across the road and buy theirs, they are close enough!

Written sans rancoeur.

“Amazing - worth driving a long distance to eat here!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 October 2013

The newly refurbished "Zed's" restaurant is such a great find! We happened upon it on their 2nd day open. The grilled artichoke appetizer is incredible. The Zed's salad (with grilled salmon added) was so good we went twice to have it! Their fish and chips is light and crunchy. Their desserts are awesome - real root beer float, bread pudding created by Mike the manager, and a gluten free chocolate cake that is impossible to tell any difference. The staff is awesome - especially Michael the waiter, Febe the waitress, and Michael the manager. Actually, every server that we met is exceptional and it's obvious that they have been put through extensive training. They know the menu and they are so kind and helpful. We loved meeting them all.

“Temp. closed”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 May 2013

FYI: As of Feb 2013, Zed's has temporarily closed. As of this writing 5-15-13, it still has not reopened. I always liked happy hour. And the brunch (though not cheap) had something a little different to offer which was great. Always enjoyed the outside area when the weather wasn't too hot. Hope they reopen soon.

“Always great food and live music at Zed's!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 December 2012

If you are looking for a good, family friendly place, I recommend Zed's. Check their website, but they usually always have live music on Friday and Saturday evening. They have a wonderful outside patio, a great bar and nice indoor area for dining as well. Great happy hour and wonderful appetizers to choose from. My daughter loves this place because she can run around and gets to hear live music. My husband and I love this place because it's close to our house, it's not a chain, they have wonderful food (recommend the Texas goat cheese starter, the Big Pig sandwich, the Roasted Vegetable polenta, and the Chicken Pot Pie soup) and great service. I also highly recommend the brunch as well, they have great fresh fruit! We are Zed's customers and continue to go back because it's such a great find in Austin!
