“Stephen F. Austin better than ever”
Reviewed 4 June 2013

I've stayed at the InterContinental Stephen F. Austin Hotel many times over the years. The hotel and staff has never been better than it is now. The remodeling project has resulted in a better room experience. Those great pillows are still there. The best part of the Stephen F. experience is the staff. My schedule was always shifting, but Marissa, Karmella, Viviana, Kenneth and Issa were great. The valet staff is also excellent. Look forward to another visit.

As residents of Austin, it's not often you stay in the local hotels. However, it was a special birthday and we couldn't get out of town so we did the next best thing...we booked a room at the Stephan F!

They recently underwent a renovation so everything was in top shape, but they were able to keep the historic feel of the place as well. The center stairway up to the second floor lounge is very nice. And the lounge itself was sensational. It sports a wraparound terrace that overlooks Congress Avenue, the State Theater and the Capital. (Definitely spend an hour or two there!)

We had booked a King Deluxe room, and when we arrived they upgraded us to a Suite. Very well appointed room. Again everything new and fresh. Extremely comfortable bed and a large living area that would work well in any home. They even surprised us with a little basket of snacks to commemorate the occasion.

The staff were all wonderful, from the front desk on up. We asked for a mini-fridge and five minutes later it was in our room. Everyone says hello. Everyone asks if there is anything they can do for you.

The location is also ideal. Close enough to everything to walk but far enough away so you're not kept up by late night revelers. Walk up to the Capital or down to the Bat Bridge. Walk to the Warehouse District or down Sixth Street. Any if anything is a little out of reach (like South Congress) you can easily grab a pedi-cab.

The bottom line is we highly recommend this place. And even if we don't find another reason to stay overnight (and hopefully we will), we'll definitely be back to the terrace!!!

Austin, Texas- the liberal pocket of Texas filled with nightlife, outdoor activities, great food, and lots of homeless people. The Intercontinental is GORGEOUS and newly renovated. It boasts a great location in the heart of downtown on Congress and 7th, very close to the famed "6th Street". Because of its proximity to "6th Street", be ready for the homeless in droves. Its almost like being in an episode of "The Waling Dead" being surrounded by "walkers" at some points. But anyways, I digress, back to the hotel. When you check-in, there are free cookies; good cookies. We booked through Hotwire and received a free "continental" breakfast everyday that was set up like a buffet with everything from 3 hot items changed daily, to yogurt, bagels, and free coffee and juice.

The rooms are spacious and well put together. HINT: Ask for a high floor; better view.
The gym is NICE and it includes FREE WEIGHTS ( rarely happens in hotel gyms) a locker room, jacuzzi, and small lap pool.

If you can afford it, its worth it. But if you can afford this hotel, why not spend a bit more and stay at the "W". WE only got it cause of the deal on Hotwire!

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room on a HIGH FLOOR, great views and a spacious set up!

I'd have called it average but the IC brand raises ones expectations. Nice, attentive people, spacious room but the bedding needs an upgrade and that's key to a good stay, especially in a premium hotel. Short sheets with holes and a lack of power outlets were he downers.

This hotel was great!!! It is about 3 or 4 blocks from the Capitol building. If staying here you can pretty much walk to a ton of places. We would definitely stay here again when we come back to Austin

Stayed for 3 nights on business. Comfortable room, well equipped and modern, spacious bathroom. Good bar and nice to have the terrace where you can sit outside in the evening. Long thin pool, though you'd struggle if there were two of you in together! Overall very good, I'd happily stay there again.

Hello and thank you for taking time to leave those very gracious comments! It's true, our lap pool is "thin".....we will be undergoing a renovation of our pool and health club areas next month, and even though the lap pool will stay the same, I do hope we are able to welcome you back to see the new changes!

Thank you again!

Hotel has been recently refreshed. Rooms spacious and comfortable. Service impeccable. Excellent location. On site restaurant very good. Recommend fish tacos. Only suggestion - courtesy car for short trips from hotel, as hi temps cause most to wilt.
