“Flawless. Amazing value for money in central Austin”
Reviewed 13 May 2014 via mobile

I absolutely loved this charming and friendly hotel located in downtown Austin... Within walking distance to hundreds of bars and restaurants. Clean, spacious room with gorgeous amenities. The single drawback - windows do not open! Cool rainy weather and I was unable to let in fresh air. Not a problem for one night but might be inconvenient for a longer stay. I would definitely stay here again based on comfort, location, and price.

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary by staying at this hotel and it was wonderful. When we checked in they wished us happy anniversary, within minutes of arriving in our spacious room with a king size bed there was a knock on our door with the delivery of a complimentary bottle of champagne, chilled with two glasses to celebrate. The hotel is in a good location to walk around Austin exploring all the new places and admiring the details of architecture on Congress Avenue. Our dinner at the Roaring Fork connected to the hotel provided a romantic environment, great food and our waiter Erin was delightful. The steak mushrooms are to die for. Erin brought us complimentary desert with Happy Anniversary written on the plate. A delicious pecan pie a la mode!

Room Tip: Our room 1405 was quiet and very comfortable.

My wife and I has a wonderful stay at the intercontinental. The staff at the front desk and bar/restaurant were very kind in helping us find the art show. The room accommodations were simply the best. High quality furniture - updated and clean. In fact, I called back to see if someone could take a photo of a piece of furniture I liked. Tammie at the front desk was very kind and quickly took several photos and sent them to me. When in Austin, I will always stay at the Intercontinental because it is a beautiful, historic hotel with first class team members!! Thanks.

We are so pleased that you liked our furniture! We do too! In fact, we are just nuts about our entire renovation....I'm so glad that you and your wife were able to experience it, and hopefully you were able to also explore Austin. Come back and see us again soon, and thank you for the comments.

I used to travel to Austin from Singapore (around 30 hours shower-to-shower) every six weeks for business. The hotel was great, comfortable clean rooms, good food, good American service. The hotel laundry must be doing something wrong though, every shirt I ever had laundered came back with fragile buttons that disintegrated within days of their return. Nevertheless highly recommended, close to 6th street, and a number of other great bars and restaurants.

I was born and raised in the country where it was considered pretentious to wear socks with your shoes. So as I entered the beautiful, richly appointed foyer, I confess I was a bit gawky and starry-eyed. If the staff noticed they certainly didn't indicate it as they treated me warmly as a welcome guest. We had an upper-floor suite with a beautiful view and an embarrassing amount of room. Breakfast the following morning was quite good and satisfying with a good variety of items on the buffet. If you're a business traveler with a need to be strategically located in downtown Austin, this is a great place. Guys, if you're looking for a special place to take your wife and make her feel like a princess, this is also a great place. It was tricky to find the entrance but after that it was all a 5 star experience.

Hello William B from Houston, TX, and thank you for that 5 Star survey! I was smiling as I read it...not only was it complimentary of our property and staff, but you also provided tips for husbands and business travelers!

Houston's not far away, come on back and let us spoil you some more. You don't even have to wear socks.....

Prior to our arrival we upgraded to a suite. Great decision! Our suite was extremely spacious with a very large lounge room. The bed was luxuriously huge. The main bathroom was massive with a lovely well lit seating area for doing makeup etc. During the day the room was light and airy with the curtains opened and dark and quiet at night. We had an excellent breakfast downstairs. You might also like to try out Slake Cafe next door - bacon jam - YUM! The door and valet staff were really helpful, welcoming and knowledgeable. This hotel is in walking distance of many attractions and we will stay again. Austin is major foody town so don't miss Eddie Vs, Gourdoughs, La Traviata, Taverna and Kenichi.

Keeping it weird in style ever since we opened in 1924, thanks to the people of Austin who funded our construction! When we opened we were the tallest building in Austin at 10 stories tall. We have gotten a little taller, 15 stories currently, but the city has grown up around us over the years making us a hidden gem in the heart of downtown. We are located 1 block from 6th street, 3 blocks from the Capitol and walking distance to all the activities that make Austin the amazing city that it is.
