“Come here monthly”
Reviewed 26 April 2014

My husband and I like to frequent the SoCo district mostly because of the vibe and the great restaurants (Hop Doddy and Doc's), we also love to stop at the Big Top Candy Shop that has so many goodies it is hard to take in. The SoCo district is alway fun and hopping!

“Eclectic, great shopping, food and tremendous people-watching!”
Reviewed 27 March 2014

Life just doesn't get any sweeter than grabbing a cup of Iced Turbo at Joe's and strolling the Soco district....it is either all uphill or all downhill..depending, so wear appropriate shoes. But cute. This area is trendy and Fabulous, with a capital 'f', so no ugly shoes...! However, your eyes will be treated to some world class people-watching, some credit card exercising shopping and be sure and go to Lucy in Disguise! A better costume shop does not exist...selfie heaven. Once you have walked Soco, stop and have an ice cream at Amy's...maybe after hovering a delicious grilled cheese at Burro's....***if you are in town and hungry at an odd hour, head to Magnolia Cafe..they literally have never closed, ever. Great food.

“I Love the South Congress District!”
Reviewed 28 February 2014 via mobile

Well, according to the gentleman from Bloomington, I must be a "libtard" ....whatever that is...because I love the South Congress area. The vibrancy of the business community, the restaurants, the shops, the food trucks and the throngs of people prove that the idea that we should all stay home watching Fox News while dreaming up conspiracy theories is not for everyone. If you like to see what is going on with the 20, 30 and 40 year olds (I, by the way, am 62) take a little side trip to the "SoCo", have some food at one of the great restaurants, (I highly recommend Home Slice Pizza) watch the people, stroll the eclectic stores and chat-up a few younger people...I think you'll be pleasantly surprised on all fronts!

“Young and vibrant area”
Reviewed 19 February 2014

This area is very cool and young. There you can find very original shops, coffee shops, food trucks and restaurants. It's a nice area to take a walk on a Sunday morning or to have dinner.
It deserves at least a short visit.

“First for the food and then may be to check quirky shops, signs and people”
Reviewed 18 February 2014

Going for
Food: more for value, inexpensive, around the world food available with food carts. Those food carts in SoCo open for a longer, more predictable hours compared to those food carts around 6th street. Food carts in parking lots, some attached to small stage with music, beer garden and specialty, old, small restaurants also available. On the other hand, you can find more expensive upscale restaurants and somewhere in between places -- really popular among younger generations like hopdoddy "burger" place. So there will be something for everybody.

People watching, music: Less place for music compared to 6th street, but plenty of free parking here. One-a-kind shops selling all sorts ranging from "organic vegetable" to painting, antique etc.

Seriously need more info or website to locate famous food carts and SoCo itself if Austin is even dreaming about challenging Portland for weird food, strange people. Too liberal? May be for Texas but nothing unsual seen except one he-he and may be one she-she couple after spending the whole evening at SoCo and 6th Ave on VALENTINE day. Oh, forget to mention, one kid with punk hairstyle. Too mild compared to Portland, OR. I would say 99% of normal looking people and many with family visiting and so you can too.
