Four of us went on a Thursday. We tried everything hot on the Happy Hour menu. Absolutely splendid!

We were going to pick our favorites and reorder. Guess what! We reordered everything.

There was enough on each plate for everybody to get a bite.

I have to say it was an extraordinary culinary experience.

The food at Uchi was amazing. The presentation of the foods was absolutely incredible. I wanted to try everything on the menu. I sat at the Sushi bar and was amazed at all of the dishes being prepared. This place is A+, you won't go wrong here. Even if you don't care for raw sushi, you can find plenty of options to eat other things on the menu.

From beginning to end, we thoroughly enjoyed the Uchi experience. Now I know why it's booked solid and even on a Tue night one must reserve in advance.

Before we got our table, we sat out in the little courtyard and were offered a couple of complementary fritters with a strawberry basil water which was great BTW.

Once at our table, we saw so many things on the menu we wanted to try, we didn't know where to begin. Our waiter was very helpful and despite the hustle and bustle of the place, took the time to explain and recommend.. it was much appreciated.

So we went through soups, Oysters, fresh entres, warm entrees, tempuras, sushi, sashimi ... and absolute must have dessert... wow. I can't begin to explain each dish but each was a work of art in presentation, in taste .. just amazing. It's no surprise that they won a spot in the top restaurants .. and as we left, we saw a wall filled with well deserved reviews and awards .

In the end, I think our indecision with ordering served us well, as we just ordered a plate or two at a time, and when we got the next plate we ordered again. it made it a 2+ hour experience, but a wonderful one that we enjoyed. In fact, having these dishes sit on the table for even 10 minutes would likely alter their taste. We had one which had frozen grapes for example, the mix of temperature, the harder texture of the nearly frozen grape slice .. would all change if you had it sit for 5 minutes on the table,... Don't try to rush your Uchi experience.

My only negative comment was the noise level. Even on a Tue night, there were so many people (some were louder than others) that the noise level was somewhat high and this experience would have been more enjoyable for us in a quiet setting. That said, it's not Uchi's fault and I still have a raving 5* review with one of the best meals ever comment for the place.

We had a beautiful dinner at Uchi while visiting for SXSW. Yes, it gets very crowded so come early if you don't have a reservation or be prepared to wait in the lovely outdoor seating area. Food was amazing. Service was great. There are no clear courses. The dishes come out as they are ready, which we loved. It was all perfectly timed giving us the opportunity to enjoy and experience each dish. However, our last dish, the pork jowl, wasn't timed so well. We waited for a quite a long time, so long in fact, our server asked us if we wanted to order dessert in the meantime, all before we even finished our meal. It wasn't the best end to a great meal but I would still go back. Up until that point, everything was perfect. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

Couples' weekend in Austin, TX and decided to walk into Uchi without a reservation. While we had a two hour wait-the outdoor garden seating area was very nice-great atmosphere with small tables and chairs in a kind of "zen" garden with fans blowing to keep bugs away and the staff walked around serving free appetizer samples and we ordered drinks and chatted away....The sushi was fabulous, we shared many different types of rolls and they were all delicious! The tables are close together so not a lot of privacy but the staff was friendly and service was quick once seated. Pros: delicious food, good staff, free appetizers and quick drink service while you are waiting, Cons: long wait if you don't have a reservation
