Super 8 Austin/Airport South
Ranked #73 of 202 Hotels in Austin

Well, after staying in College Station at the Hilton for 4 days, I was more than slightly surprised to discover that this Super 8 far exceeded the hospitality and quality of that hotel. Free cookies (all day long), continental breakfast, fridge, microwave, safe, and computer all in the room, a printer for getting boarding passes printed off and a free shuttle to the airport were all provided free of charge; none of these things were to be found at the Hilton. Most impressive and pleasing, though, was the friendliness of the front desk receptionist, Dee.

This Super 8 was beyond what anyone what anyone would expect of a Super 8. The staff was nice and courteous. After checking they called to make sure that everything was ok. The room was clean and well decorated. The hallways didnt smell like mold and dirt. The complimentary breaksfast was awesome. Not the usual cereal and toast, but waffles, eggs, bacon and starbucks coffee. This hotel was relaxing. I will definitely stay here the next time I'm in Austin.

We were placed in the "Queen Suite"--just off to the left of the lobby. After having such a long day of travel, we were extremely surprised when we entered the room. It was huge and also had a huge TV in it. There was a comfortable king-size bed, a laptop with complimentary Internet access, and some snacks. The complimentary breakfast wasn't the standard Continental one and actually included eggs, waffles, and sausages.

There seemed to be no grocery/convenience stores or restaurants within walking distance. Otherwise, we were very pleased with our stay/experience and would definitely stay there again.

Wow. This was an excellent motel, and much more than I expected for a discount chain. The room was immaculate. The beds were very comfy. The motel was very quiet. The breakfast was great. Although it is described as a continental breakfast, they have eggs and warm sausage biscuits in addition to the usual continental fare (and a variety of fruit). The best part of breakfast was an amazing Starbucks coffee machine that made expresso drinks in both regular and decaf. Definately the best hotel coffee I ever had. They also have a 24-hour coffee machine in the lobby that had Starbucks coffee. And, little fun-size candy bars in the lobby and room (no charge). They went out of their way to make the motel experience nice, including faux flowers in the room, and a basket for wet towels in the bathroom.

Yes, it's in a faintly ugly location, and yes, it's no one's idea of a dream getaway, but for a cheap night near the airport this is a good a value hotel as you'll find anywhere. One weird thing: I stayed in a "jacuzzi suite," and said jacuzzi was no more than a couple f feet from the bed. When you turned it on, purple yellow and green light winked from the ceiling. It was very Donna Summers, and not in a particularly good way

We stayed at this hotel due to the great reviews. Indeed, the numerous amenities (e.g., evening snacks, in-room computer, bathrobes) were a nice touch and contributed to our overall nice stay. However, the hotel lost major points when the manager’s wife (who checked us in) placed us in a second floor room. Almost a month earlier when we made reservations, we requested the third floor because we needed quiet and didn’t want anyone above us.

When I reminded the woman at the front desk that we really needed a quiet room, she insisted repeatedly that it was. Nope, within hours, we heard someone stomping around, dropping things, etc. overhead. When I went back to the front desk, a couple who had just walked in with no reservations was given a third-floor room. I spoke to the same woman who checked us in and explained the situation (and why we had even requested a quiet room in the first place) and was told the third floor was completely booked and that the reason we were given a second floor was because a group was on the top floor and she didn’t want us to be disturbed (!!). I didn’t understand that logic because members of that large group were also placed in several rooms on our floor. We tried to make the best of it since we were only staying two nights, but being awakened several times between midnight and 3:00am made me regret booking this hotel.

We just wanted to be able to sleep peacefully and didn’t get it. That staff member had an opportunity to: a) fulfill our request – made weeks in advance – upon check-in, as they clearly had availability on the top floor at that time; and b) just move us and forget the lame excuse of not wanting to disturb us by sticking us in the middle of a large group, which we were anyway.

We actually planned to stay at this hotel for several other visits in the coming months, but we will definitely book elsewhere. (The manager himself and a young woman at the front desk were awesome, though. Wish they happened to be the ones who checked us in, in the first place.)
