I had a great stay at the Star of Texas Inn and can only report possitive comments on every aspect from booking to check out. Located on a neighborhood street not far from the University and "downtown", the Star of Texas Inn offers two converted Victorian-styled houses side by side. I was in building 2 room #20. The room was recently renovated with hardwood floors, private bathroom with a big bathtub/shower combo, wall mounted flat screen TV, comfortable full bed, dresser, desk and armoire. Each room has a phone for personal calls, plenty of towels, soap and shampoo, and even bath robes for guests to wear. The back door has a punch key lock for security and there is a parking lot if you have a car. Throughout the day water, lemonade, and home-made cookies are offered in the common area (which can be used for meetings or social gatehrings). The room didn't have black-out shades however the blinds kept the bright light out. Street noise was minimal, although I'd recommend an upper floor to other guests to obtain the most peace and quiet.

The breakfast is ample and delicious: hot and cold items are offered, as well as sweet and savory. There really is something for everyone! There are also enough tables in the dining area in that one may sit with other guests and chat, or may sit solo. I felt the timeline for breakfast was fair and not overly early. The Inn also offers wi-fi service - be observent and notice the code on the paper invite that is left for you when you arrive. There is a guidebook in the room that explains a number of services and provides information on how to contact hotel staff/etc.

I felt welcomed and extremely comfortable here. The accomidations are better than many hotels! This is a great place to stay independently or to arrange for a group to stay together. I will certainly return if I find myself in Austin again!

Background story - a GF and I decided to go to Austin for a girl weekend... spur of the moment let's get out of our city and do something else decision. Looking for a place to stay, everything seemed to be booked except for Super 8 and Motel 6... the rates at Super were $300+/night... Yah. It turns out the Formula 1 Grand Prix was in town for the weekend...lol.

I refuse to take part in paying a price like that when it would normally have been $100 or less. We almost gave up. On a whim, I called around a couple of B&Bs. One had no vacancy, the other was price gouging and then there is this gem called Star Of Texas. I'm a born Texan and this place made me proud. Why?

Integrity - they charged normal rates though others were not.
Great service - They called me back and made the arrangements via phone/email while we were on our way driving to Austin.
Pristine - super clean... even the air.
Comfy/Well decorated
Location - close to everything in town. Bring your bike and just ride. Lanes/trails are right out the front door.
Breakfast - fresh, full and yummy. My favorite was waking up smelling breakfast cooking like I was a kid at home again.
Snacks/drinks - free snacks, fresh cookies, fruit, and drinks (juice, tea, coffee) all day.

If you go to Austin, you don't want to miss out on this gem!

This B&B is located about two blocks from the UT-Austin campus, which has the LBJ Library, The Blanton Art Museum, and many more cultural venues and restaurants within walking distance. It's important to note that parking is impossible to find in Austin, so you might as well walk. As others have mentioned, the cookies in the alcove and the wine and lemonade in the fridge are really nice touches. Bring your ear plugs (or ask for some) One drawback was the dorm being constructed about 50 yards from the B&B. They started work every morning at 5am so this was not a restful place. The construction is supposed to be completed by next fall, but you are right near a lot of student housing so you'll also hear drunken students strolling by frequently. Breakfasts were delicious, Dylan was very helpful and friendly and the place was spotless.
