“Excellent for Business Travel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 October 2011

I've been traveling almost every week to Austin this year for business, and have been staying at the Residence Inn Austin Downtown/Convention Center for the past 10 months.

The hotel is clean and well kept, the location is perfect, and the staff friendly and cordial.

A special mention for Shellie who works at the champions restaurant, and Tatiana who works at the front desk for being very professional and friendly at all times.

Cheers !

Raj,

It has been our pleasure to have you as one of our long term residents here in Austin. Kudos to you for mentioning the two associates that have help make Austin a Home away from Home. Thank you!
We are going to keep on working to improve all aspects of our hotel for you and future guests and cannot wait to show off our new look after our total hotel renovations in April.

Thank you again for all of your business Raj.

Cheers,
David

This hotel is in a great location with excellent front desk staff - I was often greeted by name, which was a very nice touch. The rooms are nice enough - nothing special. As the hotel is fairly new, the rooms still look fairly new and were clean.

My second night at the hotel, the room did not get serviced. The person I spoke with to complain was mildly apathetic and asked if there was anything I needed to "hold me over" - no offer to pass along the word to the manager. No offer to find someone in housekeeping to clean my room.

Moreover, I dropped off dry cleaning on Saturday morning to be returned on Sunday. Apparently, my laundry was never submitted for cleaning. By the time the problem had been identified, nothing could be done to fix the it other than returning my bag of dirty clothes to me. As a result, I had to go to a meeting in jeans and a polo shirt the following day - incredibly disappointing service.

When I checked in, there was a very large sign (huge) warning of a "No Party Policy". This is not what you generally want to see when you are checking in to a room where you are paying $300 a night. I understand that it was a big weekend in Austin (many are) but this doesn't seem classy or appropriate. Why not hand people a flyer or put a note in everyone's room?

All in, its a nice enough hotel, with good front desk staff. If you are looking for anything more than a place to sleep after going out downtown, I would suggest looking elsewhere. There are many other options in downtown Austin that will provide a more upscale service experience for almost the same cost.

Thank you for your letting us know about your most recent stay at the hotel. I want to extend my sincere appology for the lack of service you recieved durring your visit. We take pride in our level of service and look to personally connect with every guest. When we drop the ball, like we did durring your visit, we step back and look to eliminate barriers preventing service excellence. We have updated our laundry process to better record and track timing of incomming and outgoing laundry. We also have a houskeeper in the evenings to immediatly assist guests in the event service is required later in the evening.

Thank you again for staying with us. We do look forward to making a improved impression on your next visit.

I stayed here for several days on business, and while I did not have time to closely examine the place, I consistently found the staff to be very friendly and attentive. Further, the hotel is very well kept and room housekeeping is meticulous. If you are using the suites for business, note that no wall separates the sleeping and sitting areas. The microwave and refrigerator were clean; when the fridge started making odd noises the engineering staff appeared within minutes and repaired it. Free wifi worked throughout the trip, and the setting, although downtown, was quiet enough for a good night's sleep. The plumbing drained well, the HD TV worked and is visible from the sleeping and sitting areas. I was surprised at the coarse, threadbare towels; they reminded me of some fleabags where I stayed on the backroads of Kentucky circa 1975. Good business hotel.

Room Tip: The higher the quieter.

Very good location, close to convention center and restaurants. Easy to get to from the airport ( about 25 minutes taxi ride).
Hotel is new, rooms are clean and well appointed. Bathroom is clean, but shower section is somewhat on a smaller side. Bed is comfortable. One small issue is absence of safe in the room.
Kitchen is standard as in any Residence Inn, with all the plates, glasses and utensils.

Breakfast and happy hour are provided in adjacent restaurant. Food is of a very good quality and plentiful (full breakfast buffet), service is friendly.

Gym requires special commendation - all equipment is brand new, excellent selection exorcize equipment, good number of treadmills and bikes.

Pantry in hotel is very limited. Nearby convenience store is called "2nd Street Market" and located less than 2 blocks away.

Definitely recommended for business travelers.

Not the best Marriott I've stayed at. Small lounge area, couldn't check in till almost 4pm. Pool and jaquzzi was freezing for and indoor pool. Also the floor was so dirty in the pool area and no towels. Overall okay...

Stayed here for one night in July. 2 blocks off of 6th Street but it was very quiet at night (ask for room facing 4th Street). Couple of blocks from Congress Street Bridge if you want to see the Austin bats. A night stroll along the bridge is really pretty. Beds were comfy and breakfast was great. Would stay here again!

Sassums,

Thank you for sharing your experience in Austin. The bats in Austin have become a top attraction and the city even has a festival to thank nature's mosquito repellent. The 7th annual Bat Fest will be held on the Congress Bridge August 27th from 1pm until Midnight...Also, next time your in town take time to venture a bit farther south on Congress St. and you will find the fun and funky shops that Austin is Famous for.

We look forward to entertaining in the near future at the Marriott Downtown Austin!

Stayed here two nights on a business trip. This Residence Inn sparkles. Perhaps best run Residence Inn I have stayed at in recent memory. Management is visible and fully engaged every morning and it shows. Front desk persons were always helpful and friendly.

Breakfast was above average and was offered in the Champions restaurant in the co-located Courtyard. There is also a full on Starbucks on site. Many high quality restaurants in walking distance, including Fogo de Chao and Flemings.

Parking is pricey, even for Austin TX ($27) It is free on street after 530PM if you can snag a spot. I was charged with garage parking first night, front desk girl made change without incident.

Overall, a well above average stay at this price point. I would stay here again.
