“A real bargain for downtown Austin”
Reviewed 31 December 2012

After researching downtown Austin hotel options extensively, I selected the Residence Inn due to a really good offer. I made a very good decision. The price was the best offered and the hotel was the best I've stayed in, with only a few exceptions (one I stayed in in Barcelona was more luxurious). The room was roomy, tastefully decorated & didn't even feel like a hotel; but more like an urban high-rise apartment. It even had a "L" couch, full refrigerator, stove, cooking utensils, etc. The view of downtown Austin was super.

One reason we wanted to stay downtown was so we could park the car & walk everywhere. Most great attractions in Austin are within walking distance from this hotel. Yay!

Included in the price of the room was a full breakfast in the restaurant downstairs. No expenses spared.

I will certainly stay in this hotel again the next time I'm in Austin.

Thank you for taking time to enjoy Austin and all our hotel has to offer. Chef and his team know breakfast is the most important meal of the day and always offer a great variety. Safe travels

I travel a good deal for business and typically stay in really nice four-star hotels. However, when I visit family in Southern California at Thanksgiving, we always stay in a local Residence Inn. It’s convenient and a very good value but doesn’t really live up to the hotels that I typically stay in. So I was in Austin recently, for a leisure trip where I was paying my own way, and got a great rate at the Residence Inn. I had low expectations, but it really did live up to the great reviews here on Trip Advisor.

In summary the things I liked about this hotel were its:

Small size – more typical of a boutique hotel
Friendly, helpful staff
Decent breakfast
Free happy hour (on Tues, Wed, Thursday) that could substitute for dinner
Free Internet that was always reliable and fast enough to watch movies
Very decent sized gym with good equipment
Nicely furnished contemporary rooms with an almost full kitchen
Great location that is convenient for sightseeing without a car (provided you are a good walker)
½ block from the airiport bus that costs $1.

I got a great rate at this hotel because there were no conventions going on and no events at UT. But even if I had paid full price, I still think it was a great value. The only negative thing I could say about the hotel is that their pool was tiny. It was warm in Austin in December and a nice large outdoor pool would have been perfect, but you can’t always have everything. The bottom line is that I would choose to stay here again, even if my company was paying the tab!

Room Tip: Airport bus stops 1/2 block from the Residence Inn and costs $1!

Aurora100,
Thank you for spending you leisure time with us at the hotel. We sure know how important that vacation time is and every associate stands ready to please! The team also takes pride in providing the level of service you will only find at the Full Service hotel and not typically at the Select Service brands. Thank you for your review and we hope to be of service in the future.

My friend and I came to Austin for my birthday weekend and the two of us could not have been more pleased with the location of the hotel, the actual hotel, the staff, and the room.

Our one and only issue was we drove in to park and the valet told us we had an option to self park, so we drove in to the garage but the ticket booth was broken so we had to back out and drive back. A different valet greeted us and commented that the booth had been broken for a while, but she personally walked over and let us in and explained the parking system.

That aside, we were greeted warmly by the wonderful woman at the front desk who helped us get room keys and check in. We got up to our 2 bedroom suite and the first reaction for both of us was wow. Very warm, extremely clean, nice light. One of the first things I did was open up the fridge and it was pristine, no smells, no dirt..the same for the dishwasher. The bed room I stayed in had 2 walls worth of floor to ceiling windows. I was excited at first, and then I opened them to great light, but it was a "New York Apartment." The view consisted of looking directly across the way into all the rooms of other Residence Inn members. The other view had the construction crew working across in the tower across the street with a direct view into the bedroom, so the privacy curtains mainly stayed closed the entire time. My friends view was much the same. Not so much of an issue for us b/c we were gone most of the day.

The room came with the following: (bathroom) plenty of towels, Paul Mitchell toiletries, hair dryer, (kitchen) dishes, glasses, dinnerware, silverware, cooking utensils, 2 large pots, full size fridge with freezer which had a plastic water vase inside, dishwasher with soap provided, paper towels, (bedroom) dresser drawer, 2 side tables, 2 switch lamps affixed to the walls, extra sheets and blankets in closet, full length mirrored closet, alarm clock, 3 tvs (one in each bedroom room and one in the living room), two bibles, (living room) 2 person table with chairs, sofa bed, one chair, a dresser drawer unit beneath the tv, living room table, and side table, 2 separate temperature units, one for each bedroom.

We did check out the gym and pool. Gym open 24 hours, Pool o/c I believe from 6am-11pm. Gym consisted of two rows of high caliber machines and a weight rack. The pool, right next door to the gym, was only separated by glass wall (people working out can see into the pool area while they workout). There was one small balcony outside the pool area with some beach chairs, but be warned, we could look down from our floor and see the balcony, so there is no privacy and the balcony is also right next to some rooms, so almost anyone looking out/down could conceivably see you.

The restaurant bar area is also the location for the continental breakfast. We didn't eat dinner there, but we did come down for the continental breakfast. Amazing. This was no stale donut affair, this was a full on proper breakfast. Several juice options, make your own waffle, bacon, potatoes, fresh fruit which WAS fresh and sweet, eggs, biscuits, toast, muffins, bagels, coffee, breakfast tacos, sausage.Everything was served hot and fresh and there were plenty of condiments for every station. We were also waited on by a lovely waitress who checked on us twice during breakfast which is I think almost unheard of in the serving of continental breakfasts-usually you're just left to your own devices. Also right before the restaurant area is a Starbucks inside the hotel so you don't even have to leave to get to it.

The last bonus to staying here was the location. You can easily walk to 6th street 2 blocks away which is filled with bars and restaurants of course, and on down the way, you can walk straight up to the capitol without breaking a sweat. The Zilker trails and botanical gardens are a short 5 minute drive away.

I would definitely recommend the stay. Staff was super helpful with any questions we had and giving advice for things to do. The place was extremely clean and well maintained. Almost a perfect stay.

We stayed 3 nights over Thanksgiving weekend and had a wonderful experience. The hotel was clean and comfortable, very close to all of the action on 6th street, and you couldn't ask for a more accommodating and friendly staff. The breakfast was delicious with lots of options (including lots of fresh fruit) and there were great little treats in the lobby like cookies and coffee. JoJo at the front desk really made our stay special. She found out we were recently married and sent up strawberries dipped in chocolate along with a handwritten note signed by all of the front desk staff. We informed her that we just recently moved to Texas from Germany so part of the note was written in German congratulating us on our recent wedding -- how awesome! She was also very helpful in finding entertainment and restaurants. The valets were also wonderful and very quick in retrieving our car. We couldn't have had a better experience and would highly recommend this hotel! We won't stay anywhere else when we visit Austin. The hotel, staff, and location were just perfect!

Room Tip: Try to get to breakfast by 10:00 -- the lines can be a little long.

We stayed 4 nights over the last weekend in October. The hotel was very clean and is connected to the Courtyard, so pick whichever property you prefer. We stayed in the two bedroom suite with another couple and learned that all the 2 bedroom suites are on the "quiet" side of the hotel. There are alot of party goers that are of the younger crowd that hit the bars/clubs on 6th street, only two blocks away. You do need to show ID to get into the hotel after 10pm on the weekends. The breakfast is included in the Residence Inn rate and is served in Champions bar located on property. There's also a Starbucks on property as well. Unfortunately, we found that this area was too young for us (ages 38-47), so might look to stay in another area. Also, we spent the first day touring the capital building which is within walking distance and worth the visit. As for music outside of the hip-hop/rock type, you should check the bar schedules ahead of time. We went searching for music and only found it on the last night at the Broken Spoke, which is outside of town, past SoCo area. Also, you will need a car because taxis are hard to get later in the night that far away. For food, we went to Manuel's (walking distance), Ironworks BBQ, the Diskoll for a drink, Uncle Billy's Brew & Que.

teatravels,
Thank you for you business. I would also recommend the Austin Chronicle newspaper as a great guide for local music. On the weekend 6th Street does have a youger median age but just around the hotel are several options for the 30-40 year old crowd.
The famous Antones is just down the street as well as the Continental Club. The Elephant Room is also 2 blocks away and one of the best Jazz bars in the USA. Let us know next time you are in town and we can help you find some amazing live music!

Stayed 3 nights over "Halloween" weekend and really enjoyed the stay. Rooms were clean and the hotel was quiet as they have a policy about noise after 10pm.

I have stayed at many Residence Inns and this has to be the best one yet! We have heard that Austin was friendly but staff seemed to really enjoy their job. Excellent customer service.

Location is perfect. We were able to walk to all areas we wanted to go to, including 6th street, SoCo and East Austin. Bus stop right down the corner if you wanted to take that.

There is a restaurant/bar on site that is shared with the courtyard suites. We had breakfast (free) every morning and there was a nice food selection.

Went to the fitness center and was pleasantly surprised at how big it was and it had several weight machines, free wights, and cardio equipment.

Would stay again and highly recommend.
