I live in Austin, so it was difficult trying to narrow down a place to stay due to all the great choices but as fate would have it, Hotel Ella was the perfect choice. Luxurious. Friendly. Clean. Safe.

Stayed 5 nights at the hotel. The location provides easy access to all of downtown Austin and the surrounding hill country. Our room was quiet and very comfortable. The staff is professional and very helpful and friendly. The dining is a foodies delight! When visiting Austin this is where we will always stay. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: Ask for a junior suite in the annex.

My wife and I had a fantastic stay - the rooms were great and the staff went out of their way to ensure we had an amazing stay. All were very friendly and helpful - we wanted to explore Austin and they provided us a great plan and walked us through the highlights. I read the earlier comments about staff - I wonder whether there was a training issue, because we only had a quality experience.

My family (wife, 2 boys and dog) and I stayed at the Ella to celebrate my 40th birthday and our experience was first rate completely. The staff was attentive and courteous, the rooms were well appointed and beautiful and the experience was wonderful. They are a pet friendly hotel and had a dog bed and dishes there for him (our 12 year old Lab Dave). We needed a rollaway bed and we had 3 housekeeping staff at our door within 5 minutes of the request setting it up for us and making the bed. The turndown service arrived shortly after with bottled water and little lemon bars that were great. This was on a Friday night @ 6:30 when the hotel was booked and busy. Handwritten note from the manager & birthday cookies were a thoughtful touch. The beds were super comfortable and while the rooms was smaller in nature, that was what we expected as it is a boutique style hotel. I can say the four of us plus the dog were all completely comfortable for the weekend and had no issues.

Our dinner experience at Goodall's the restaurant was amazing. We had a four course meal that was exceptional in every way and they specially made dishes that were appropriate and great for our two children that were off menu items with no problem. They brought us a gratis champagne toast for me and my wife (apple cider for the kids) again to toast my birthday. The wait staff was excellent and the meal was well paced. The specialty drinks from the bar were great and the wine selection was everything I could've wanted.

The grounds are beautiful including the small splash pool, the yard and the mansion patio. All of the art in the hotel is local to the Austin art community. The hotel itself is just blocks from UT and Downtown and is super convenient to everything downtown Austin has to offer.

We had an excellent time at the Ella, and our family weekend was again excellent. They were great to our kids even as it is a more adult oriented property & my family all enjoyed themselves immensely. I would highly recommend this unique Hotel to anyone with confidence.

Fantastic small luxury hotel. We spent there two days at the end of our two-weeks trip to Texas. We were absolutely charmed by the facilities and by the friendliness of the staff from the room manager and reception staff to valet and housekeeping personnel. We were impressed not only by their capabilities but also by their language skills. Beautiful place to stay, very well located, close to the city center yet quiet and pleasant. We were pampered and fell like home. The rates are more than fair. We stayed in many similar hotels all over the world and this one is definitely a gem. Breakfast was elegant and the choice was wide, we could find many different dishes (European style) that one can hardly find elsewhere in the USA. We will recommend this outstanding hotel to all our friends in Switzerland.

Fantastic location near the University of Texas campus. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The hotel provided transportation to and from the festival which made our trip to ACL so easy. Comfortable and plush rooms and loved the blend of historical character of the main building with the updated modern clean design of the guest rooms. The renovations were ongoing on the courtyard pool and guestroom wing addition, but construction noise was not a problem. Overall, we had a great experience at Hotel Ella and look forward to staying here next time we are in Austin.

Beautiful hotel, until you look beneath the surface. Staff: very pleasant, not especially well-trained. One example: bellman left me carrying a heavy bag, while he carried a light briefcase. Another, no guide book to hotel services in the room. Wound up walking to valet parking to get my car, rather than calling a number, since the doorman had not written any number on the ticket, and the telephone system is indecipherable. Rooms: I had a large garden suite, looking onto the pool. As a result, there was little sitting area, just a lot of open space. No desk for working. I decided to work on the patio next to the beautiful pool and its fountains. Wrong. Construction is ongoing---a lot of noise, plus workmen walking around. Another point: no guide to television channels, so you flip one by one until you find the station you want. Here's a biggie: no closets. An armoire, BUT, it's full of shelves, so your pants, dresses, etc. can't hang straight down, but must be bent. And the sink/vanity is in the bedroom itself, rather than the bathroom. In short, the architect who redesigned the place must know nothing about hotels. It looks good, but is not practically functional. Given the truly outrageous price, I'd have been much more comfortable at a Comfort Inn. So it's a place to see and be seen, but not to stay.
