“Great historic hotel”
Reviewed 22 February 2014

The Driskill is a great historic hotel well located near good bars and restaurants in Austin. The rooms are nice and the staff is very helpful and professional. I especially enjoyed the live music in the spacious and active hotel bar.

Room Tip: Since it is a historic hotel the rooms are on the small side. Be sure to upgrade to a suite, if you...

My two night stay had a couple of minor glitches, but the service provided by management and staff was extraordinary! They were receptive to my concerns, to the point of mailing me the Downton Abbey Season 4 DVD due to one missed episode during my visit! It is so rare and refreshing to find customer service that puts the customer first, and if there is a problem, tries to find a solution that puts the guest's needs over the hotel's profits. My stay was delightful and I will be back. Thanks, Driskill staff for your efforts to delight your guests. It works!

Room Tip: I was on the 12th floor and it was very quiet

LBJ was right! He loved this place and we did too! Beautiful Lobby, lovely patio off the bar. Nice lounge, great luncheonette. Lots of places to explore with your kids. And a great lobby scene. Our room was small but very pretty with very high ceilings and nice furniture. And you can't beat the location, right in the middle of everything! I really felt the whole Texas thing here.

Fancy lobby and first level bar and right on 6th st where it at all happens from a partying perspective.

Staff nice enough, rooms are old fashioned so be ready for that - if you're into your modern rooms that resemble a space ship, this isn't the place for you.

Bathroom was so small you couldn't swing a miniature cat in it let alone go to the toilet comfortably (i'm 6 ft tall & not overweight to help with perspective). My toilet was blocked & flooded in my first hour of being in the room & I had to be relocated - the distance between the toilet & the bedroom floor wouldn't have been more than 2 ft. Took quite a while to get help to change rooms & the maintenance guy was juggling several problems & seemed under-resourced. I got a new room that was almost identical except had a more acceptable bathroom.

Hint: when booking (If only I knew), ask for a room with a larger bathroom.

Found this place expensive for what it was compared to other places I've stayed in, but I don't regret it - it was an experience minus the mod-cons.

Enjoyed it thank you and bar staff on level 1 were outstanding operators.

Would I stay there again? Likely.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a 'bigger' bathroom

Dear Russell T,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding your recent stay. I would like to offer my sincere apologies for the maintenance issues you encountered, but am glad to hear that you were able to be relocated to a more accommodating room. As a historic hotel, many of the rooms are configured different from one another, and it is great to hear that you could appreciate some of that character. We look forward to welcoming you back the next time your travels bring you to Austin.

This is the dreamiest hotel I have ever stayed in. So historic and grand, yet cozy and relaxing. Did not want to leave. The rooms are beautiful and bathrooms are roomy. Each room is unique and has character. There's nothing generic about this hotel. The level of customer service there is unsurpassed. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating. The restaurant had delicious food. Incredible breakfast with amazing coffee. We will definitely be back.

From a fantastic front desk staff at check in, to a very friendly bartender "Cassie" in the cafe, the staff of the Driskill was outstanding. Very happy to share their "ghost stories", this hotel has such character that the staff honestly seemed happy to be working there. Sadly, this is very refreshing compared to other places I travel for business!

Thanks for a great stay and I will highly recommend to anyone traveling to Austin!

And not to fail to mention, the bread in the cafe is AMAZING!!!!

Room Tip: Ask for the 4th or 5th floors for ghost spotting!

My first time to Austin and I wasn't disappointed. I spent 3 nights here for a work meeting. The hotel is in a great location with everything you need within a short walk. The staff are friendly and effective. My room (303) was large and comfortable (although the TV picture quality was just average). The food was also very good, including our catered lunches.

The bar is outstanding, with live music every night.

This architecture, decor, and history of this property make it stand out as a must-stay. Surprisingly, our group rate wasn't too expensive, at least compared to the W.

I will definitely stay here again if I'm ever back in Austin.

Room Tip: Stay in the old portion of the hotel.
