I stayed at the Driskill for a business meeting combined with a mini-vacation.
The staff was wonderful and the hotel has a very Texas feel which was nice. The rooms were unique and very nice. I would highly recommend staying at this property.

1886 classic hotel, updated just enough to stay elegant and competitive. Great service from the valet and front desk, including an amazing suite upgrade for our two night stay.
The restaurant was closed for renovations, too bad, as this is one of the best hotel restaurants around. Breakfast was in the grille and was outstanding, served until 11 AM.
The bar is classic western, plenty of leather and lamps made from old pistols. The drinks and service are perfect, but not cheap.
The 12-14 foot ceilings and wide hallways always make me happy, so classic. Did not have the noise issues that we encountered at the "W" last stay. Excellent sleep quality.
Location is perfect, walk to just about anything in downtown, restaurants, clubs, the lake, etc.

Room Tip: Brazos Suite was wonderful, huge balcony, living room and dining area.

There are well known Hotels in major cities through out the world. The Driskill is one of those in Austin, Texas. The service was on par with the Hyatt brand of hotels, except that it was performed in a classic historic hotel. We ask for a room in the historic tower as we wanted the experience and it was large and comfortable. We didn't meet any of the ghosts, but we did meet attentive friendly staff. The food was great and from local Texas producers in staying with the Texas theme. If you like historic hotels you will enjoy the laid back atmosphere of the Driskill.

Room Tip: Try the off-street rooms if you like less noise, as the street side has the crowd noses from 6th str...

I love a nice hotel- Four Seasons, St. Regis, etc. And there are many beautiful hotels in the world... that all feel the same. So when you get the chance to stay in an historic, Grande Dame hotel, you have to take it.

I read a lot of reviews that the rooms are small. Do people play polo in their hotel room? What do you plan on doing in Austin- it's not a resort city. Your hotel needs to be clean, safe and convenient. The Driskell is that an more. It's classy, elegant, wonderfully charming and period. I could almost see women in full hoop skirts and parasols descending the staircase and men in heavy wool suits with pocket watches and six shooters on their hips.

Austin is a great city. Might as well stay in a great hotel. The rest are all pretty much the same... and it's tragic more great hotels like this don't still stand. Bravo Driskell- you are preserving the patrimony for future generations. And your bartender makes an excellent sazerac.

We are hotel snobs. We stayed here this week for one night. We had the basic room. When checking in, we were asked if we wanted to upgrade. We declined, since we were staying only one evening.
We had room 427. Evidently it is a haunted room...so that made it a little more intriguing. We did not encounter any paranormal activity.
The room was very clean. We love old boutique hotels. The bed was comfortable. We had no view from our room--which was fine.
Very centrally located. Valet and bell services were quick and professional. Check in was friendly, too. We had a ladey check us in that was so nice (I can't recall her name!). Joe Graham was friendly at the check in desk as well.
The hotel treated us to chocolate covered strawberries and champagne since it was our anniversary. This was really appreciated and nice! Thank you!
We will stay again at The Driskill.
Thank you for the great customer service!

Hello janet g,

It's great to hear you had such an enjoyable time here at the Driskill. Sometimes some of the best sleep comes from one of our internal guest rooms. It's also great to hear you really enjoyed the little gift from us in celebration of your anniversary. We can't wait to welcome you back soon.

Sincerely,

Joe

Stayed at this hotel on 6/21 in room 1102. The lobby of the hotel was great, the rooms were nice and recently renovated for such an old establishment. The next morning I was looking around the room to be sure I didn't forget anything and found under the night stand an empty green bottle (that was not mine), and under the bed was a pile of dog feces (and I didn't have a dog with me). I called the front desk to alert them of the issue as we were leaving anyway. They offered not apology or shock that such a tragic thing would happen. Other than this the hotel was nice.

Also, I asked the front desk for Advil or some type of headache medicine (I even offered to pay). They were able to offer any (first time that has EVER happened, even a Holiday Inn would give you headache medicine upon request). You'd think a hotel as nice as this one could at least provide Advil.

Unique elaborate Victorian/Queen Anne era Texas decor, plus usual quota of cowhide & horn; reeks of Texas history. Rooms are generally small & guests must negotiate a maze of elevators & corridors, but that's part of its charm. Could use more lighting in public areas & rooms. Very friendly, helpful staff.

Dear BTR1,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I love your note about the usual quota of cowhide and horn. You depicted a perfect picture of the bar. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay with us and experienced wonderful service, as that is something we hold to a high standard. We are also working on improving the lighting as we speak. Please come and stay with us again next time your travels bring you to Austin!

Sincerely,

Joe
