Alf's is the usual ski resort dining. Go through the turnstyle and get what you want, from beer & hamburgers to chile or salad, chocolate milk, etc. It's all there. What's neat about Alf's is the location. If you have a group with ski bunnies on the beginner slopes at Sunnyside, Hot skiers sking off the Collins, Sugarloaf or Supreme lifts, everyone can ski to Alf's. And on warm sunny days, the outdoor seating can't be beat. You will find your friends without even planning on it.

The veggie chili was almost all beans, virtually no veggies and it tasted like spicy mid. My wife’s baked potato with broccoli and cheese had almost no cheese and was dry. The chocolate chip cookie was mealy. They really should do better.

There are two on-mountain lunch spots, and 5 lodge-based restaurants.

Alf's one of the on-mountain cafeteria. It is only accessible by ski; it's located mid-mountain, at the base of the Sugarloaf lift. That means that if some of your group are beginners, and some are more advanced, this is the best choice for on-mountain dining or meet-ups.

I only ate there once on my trip, and I ordered my usual first-time-to-a-ski-lodge-lunch: vegetarian chili. For its class, the chili was pretty good. Alf's also offers soup etc. in bread bowls; the innards of the bread bowls were available free of charge as "bread crumbs" -- what they were was big lumps of sourdough bread, which was yummy to dip in the chili.

The menu overall was about average for on-mountain dining -- some grill items, some grab-and-go sandwiches, and a selection of beverages (including beer).

It gets really crowded (hard to find a seat) at lunchtime, so you might want to plan your stop for before 11:30 or after 1:30.

Nice spot to come in off the mountain for lunch and a break from the hill. The food was good (though a bit overpriced but that's to be expected). It was nice to get a warm beverage and a free refill on the same day. The cookies are really good, nice and soft!
