We stayed at the Alta Peruvian lodge a while back, 7 days of pure AWESOME. Its still the best vacation we have ever taken. Food at the lodge is 5 stars, dine with new friends or find a quiet table for 2, everyone has fun. The rooms are simple and quaint. But the atmosphere is off the charts. If you are looking for Aspen or Sun Valley, don't bother going to Alta, there's no glitz or glam there. But, if you want miles and miles of great snow and NO SNOWBOARDS, its the place to be. The staff at the Peruvian are top notch. Anything you need, they will get it. They are polite and very anxious to help.

Stayed for a long weekend, 4 nights this past march. Staff was great, very helpful yet laid back which made for a great atmosphere. Servers were great, we had a large party of 12 for dinner every night and service was friendly and helpful with a personality. Great location, tons of fun to hang out in the pool and hot tub right at the bottom off the mountain. Shuttle was very efficient getting us back and forth to skiing each day and for lunch. Rooms are smaller and basic but if you are spending a lot of time there then you are doing it wrong.

The Alta Peruvian transforms you back to the 1960s - or before. It's spartan but oh so comfortable. There is a great hot-tub, comfortable living room and media room, and terrific dinning room. The guest rooms are very small and very sparse. You can have a room w/ its own bathroom but we usually pass on that and just use the communal facilities.

The staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating. The culture of the place is all about the skiing. We've been going for ten years and we're rookies. Folks just keep coming back. Dinners are always a blast as we sit w/ new folks at the eight-seat dinning tables each night. There's always a story - sometimes terribly far-fetched.

If you want to get away from the faux-luxury and get back to the roots of what skiing is all about then there's no other place to stay than the Peruvian. It's a time machine that caters to your needs and reminds you why you fell in love with skiing.

I will always go back.

Room Tip: Be prepared for very small rooms but a place with a very big heart.

The Alta Peruvian is one of the most comfortable lodges I have ever had the privilege to stay at. Having stayed at the lodge on about 15 occasions, I can honestly say I've never been disappointed. No, it's not the 4 Seasons, but the location and overall ambience makes one feel right at home. My favorite time: early morning in the common area. It's full of eager powder hounds, many in their pajamas, reading, checking email or chatting.

A night's stay includes all 3 meals. The food is plentiful, healthy and done well. Diners eat family style, so it's a great time to rehash your day on the slopes and meet some interesting folks.

I adore the Peruvian and it's rustic ambiance, skier addict vibe, tasty food, divine location, and hot hot tubs. It tends to be a male-centric place with guys' trips, but I'm a female who likes casual rusticity so it suits me just fine! Night life ends at 10-ish, so this is no pick up spot. You meet new and interesting people every hour either in the hot tub or at family style dining, and if the snow is good you're so giddy to get a good night's sleep and get back out there that nothing else matters. Rental equipment is great, bring your own boots of course. I left my little people at home this time, but I think you could term the Peruvian kid friendly. Movies at 8 pm and lots of games.
