Alta Peruvian Lodge
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 25 March 2014

This was our first stay at the Alta Peruvian and it was just what we hoped for...friendly, relaxed and comfortable. The food was excellent and we enjoyed the "family dining" experience and the opportunity to meet some incredibly nice people.

The only surprise was the bar. We understand that there is a long tradition that the bar is populated with locals, but as guests we found it pretty unwelcoming (if the "locals only" sign behind the bar is meant to be amusing, it isn't) as well as very noisy (if your in a room along the same corridor) and not smelling too good after being filled with young people straight from the slopes for several hours. And there's the popcorn littering the corridor the next morning.

Anyway, this we meant we spent more time round the bar downstairs, which was fine and very friendly. We're definitely planning to return.

Room Tip: Away from the bar...avoid rooms 50 - 60.

I've been coming the Peruvian for many years and continue find it a warm, welcoming lodge filled with dedicated skiers. With the family style dining I know I will meet interesting new people as well as renew old acquaintances. But a particular highlight for me is that lodge has a guitar for guests to check out and play. On my last visit there was a group that made use of the guitar and sang around the fireplace almost every evening—folk songs, country, blues, you name it. A great complement to full days of skiing and excellent eating.

Another great stay at the Peruvian (stayed last march). Friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere, clean rooms and spectacular location. Food was excellent as well (all inclusive), prime rib was excellent on buffet night and the omelette bar hit the spot each morning. Was with a large party of 14 for dinners and the staff was very accommodating. Will definitely be back, hopefully next ski season.

Room Tip: Nordic room 78 is larger than the Nordic we stayed in last year, almost a double wide room as far as...

We have been coming to the Peruvian annually for over 20 years. This place is a gem, and throw back to the days before ski lodges became all about facials, foo foo food, and non skiers. This is a skiers lodge, with vibrant common areas that people hang out in and socialize. The staff is exceptional, caring, and attentive. They treat you like family. May it NEVER change!

I've been hearing about the Peruvian for years, and finally had the opportunity to experience the rustic and welcoming environment that I was expecting. Fit right into my program of ski-eat-sleep-chill. Great people, great staff and comfortable environment. I hope that in 20 years I will be fortunate enough to be one of the folks who gets to say "I've been coming here for 20+ years..." The skiing speaks for itself.

We have just returned from one of the best ski holiday ever ....yes Alta is Fantastic ....snow wonderful ......
But it is down to the Hotel and the Welcome you receive.....The Staff each and every one of them are simply the best from the receptionist to the bar staff to the restaurant to the housecleaning maintenance and not forgetting the ski bus drivers ....and the hotel manager .

Yes the rooms are Basic but you come to Ski...........they are warm clean comfy and have everything you need...

The lounge has coffee on tap 24 hrs a day ....

Breakfast Lunch and Dinner you meet different people from all walks of life each with a different story to tell..........Forget the quiet romantic meal, this is a hotel to be sociable .
Food is top class we were there for 15 nights and we never had poor meal, you would have thought you was eating in a top restaurant.

The pool and Jacuzzi are a bonus and a must after day on the slopes..

The Bar is rocking full of locals which is good ....but on the flip side as it is only a small room can get too busy so the hotel residents do seem to get pushed out. So tended to go downstairs to the Jacuzzi/swimming pool bar to buy dinks which doesn't have the same atmosphere...
You cannot drink in reception....
Recommendation develop downstairs to a bar for hotel guests ...or make upstairs bar bigger to accommodate more people....and the Peruvian Lodge would be perfect.

The Fabulous Peruvian is everything you've heard. Surprisingly good food, unmistakable ambiance, stunningly "rustic" rooms. We always run in to guests who have been coming for 10, 20 or more years and wouldn't go anywhere else. This is not the most luxurious trip but it is the most authentic ski experience out there and the slopes at Alta almost never disappoint. Unfortunately, the prices seem to be going up every year and $445 in taxes on a four-night stay does not suggest that Utah is a tourist-friendly state. Nonetheless, we'll be back.

Room Tip: Corner suite is definitely worth it if you can swing it.
