“We loved the Arlington Inn”
Reviewed 4 August 2007

On a spur-of-the-moment trip to Vermont, we pulled out the AAA book and started calling hotels from the car. How lucky we were that the Arlington Inn had had a cancellation and was able to give us a room for the night! We stayed in Rebecca's Retreat, a room with a queen bed in the carriage house. The room was quite spacious with a four-poster bed, a couch, and a fireplace. All of the furniture was beautiful and the bed was quite comfortable. Everything was clean and everyone at the inn was exceedingly friendly, even given our late night arrival. Breakfast was delicious...my husband is still talking about the corned beef hash! We only wish we could have stayed longer; unfortunately, the entire inn was booked for a wedding the next day so we had to find another inn in the area (Willburton, which turned out to be a complete disappointment after the Arlington Inn). We'll certainly be back and will plan in advance!

I recently spent 4 nights with friends at the Arlington Inn. We had a delightful experience. The staff and family of the inn are friendly and helpful and the rooms are like a trip to grandmother's house. The beds are great and the rooms have thermostatically controlled fireplaces. They have just the right amount of balance between the nostalgic and modern ammenities. The owner is also the primary chef and the food is wonderful. Breakfast is served in the solarium each morning and dinner is offered at quiet candlelit tables in the dining room each evening. It is a great place to sit in the garden and read a book or go shopping just down the road in Manchester.

  • Liked — The great food and wine.
  • Disliked — Cell phones do not work well in the area. Wireless internet is available.

If you plan to be in the Manchester Center area of Vermont, the Arlington Inn isn't a bad choice for accomodations. The rooms are clean and the service is good. We looked in several rooms during our stay, and generally, the furniture in the rooms is an odd mix of antiques and new "Bob's discount furniture" looking stuff, so don't expect that warm, historic, authentic feel in all the rooms. But if you can catch the rooms priced at a discount, it's the best bargain in the area (versus booking something in Manchester Center.) Also, you should spring for dinner at the Inn one night (partially because it's good food - partially because it's really the only good place to eat in Arlington), but don't plan on eating there more than one night. The menu is somewhat limited and it doesn't seem to change so you'll just have the same options every time you eat there. Several skiiing options are just a 20-30 minute drive away.

We enjoyed the peace and quite, it was also beaufitul. The in sits in a quant town and is very comforting like home. Its not like every other corporate place. It's filled with people who are friendly too. The food is great, and nothing beats hanging around and having coffee. You can hang out in the peaceful garden or take a walk under the large trees. During winter there is skiing and snuggling by the fire. Its very close to the larger towns that have shopping and skiing. I would go back in a second and plan on it.

  • Liked — peace and quiet, beautiful

My husband and I stayed at the Arlington Inn for several days this summer. It was exactly what you would expect of an historic Inn. The location was perfect, the grounds were gorgeous, the Inn was beautiful.
Our room was large, charming, and very clean. The staff was outstanding. They were gracious and so helpful.
The meals were amazing. We were more than surprised by the variety and quality of food. Exceptional meals!
We would highly recommend this Inn. We had a great stay and look forward to returning soon.

Having stayed at the Arlington Inn some time ago, we decided to go back. It was a very disappointing stay. Our room in the adjacent Parsonage house was extremely "tired" and had a very strong mildew odor. It was also chilly and the heat is not controlled in the room. The furnishings are worn and one of the chairs was stained.
Although the owners and staff were pleasant enough, they seemed overwhelmed by the Inn. The grounds are not kept up.
The Inn needs much updating and maintenance.
We did not have dinner there but breakfast was very good.
Unless we were assured that the space has been updated, we would not go back. There are many other beautiful inns in the area for a comparable rate which in this case was very high for the state of the Inn.

My husband and I just got back from a very refreshing stay at the Arlington Inn. Our lovely suite offered all of the amenties from home & then some with the king bed, two fireplaces and 2 person jacuzzi. As we selected from a full breakfast menu each morning, we could watch the birds at the feeder just outside of the solarium windows as well as the chipmunks. At our leisure we toured the area which offers a varitey of outtings from scenic drives through the mountains to some of my favorite antiquing. This was only to be topped by our dining experience. Dave, the bartender/waiter is a very talented individual when it comes to dining & wine and has a great sense of humor. We had a fabulous four course dinner along with a great bottle of wine. Try the Arlington Inn "Mixed Grill" for a real treat!

As we were leaving we noticed a brochure offering some of their different summer packages....We'll be back!
