Owner description: Drive this scenic mountain which is also used as a outdoor classroom for the study of various species of plants and animals. At 5.2 miles, the Mount Equinox Skyline Drive is the longest privately owned paved toll road in the U.S. Those who prefer to hike can pick up a trail map at the Toll House. At the top of the mountain is our new Saint Bruno Scenic Viewing Center packed with info about Equinox Mountain and the Carthusian Monks. The private property which is 7,000 acres is owned by the Carthusain monks. A cloistered order of Catholic monks. There is the Catholic gift shop at the bottom of the mountain and also souvenirs from your trip.

If you want to drive to the top of Mount Equinox you have to pay a fee to do so. For two people in one car the fee was twenty dollars. We drove up late in the day about an hour & a half before sunset, and while there was plenty of light still left in the day to enjoy the tremendous views, I think if I were to do it again I'd go earlier in the day when the sun is higher.

Nonetheless our drive up Mount Equinox was quite enjoyable. We stopped at several overlook locations on our way up to not only take in the views, but to give the motor on our car a break. Once at the top they have a nice visitor center. Once inside be sure to go up the stair case to the outdoor patios located on each side of the building. From these areas you can see forever, and they have marked photos that tell you what you're looking at in all directions.

Heading down it's low-gear all the way, and allow for time to stop occasionally to give your car brakes a rest.

We were lucky that the weather was perfect for our drive to the top of Mt. Equinox. Didn't think the drive was scary at all. Nice visitor center at the top- especially enjoyed learning more about the history of Mt. Equinox and the Carthusian monks. Wonderful views- but the weather has to be clear! A little pricey but worth it

After stopping at the toll house to pay for a token, it is off onto the winding road to the top of Mount Equinox. There are plenty of pull offs along the way to take in the view. Be sure to stop at the one where you get the great view of the monastery. At the top there is a freshly built visitor's center with clean restrooms, more great views, and tables to relax at. We saw lots of people who brough picnics along. There are also tons of signs with information on the mountain and the monastery which we found very interesting.

The rides both up and down were very pleasant, just watch your brakes as it is on the steep side. We really enjoyed the ride and thought it was a great way to see the beautiful fall colors, but it is probably an awesome view any time during the year.

Although it was past peak foliage and slightly misty, our family really enjoyed the drive up the skyline and the 360 view. Yes, the price is a little steep, but the view is lovely and the new visitors center at the top provides a nice spot to rest and look. Pack a picnic.
