This is a great place to stop if you can't afford the Martha Washington and want a clean pleasant place to stay in Abington. Convenient to Interstate but not too noisy. We'd stay here again any time. The price was right $59 +tax

Our vacation plans were set for a week of tent camping, hiking and riding the Virginia Creeper Trail over the week of the fourth of July. It was a great idea until the rains, heavy with flooding, settled over the area for the week. Based upon other reviews, my husband and I decided to try the Alpine Motel for a night. And it was as the other reviewers have described; the motel is clean with good, comfortable beds, lots of space in the room with TV, small refrig and microwave...the basics at a good price. We were welcomed warmly and appreciated that it is family owned. We had a non-smoking room and it was just that... fresh with no residual or old smokey smell. The carpet was new and clean, and the counter and shower had been renewed with marble. As others have said, it is low on frills so remember your shampoo and hair dryer. In exchange you get a good place to stay at a fair price with the bonus of a room with a view. The forecast was continuing rain, and we were much very happy with the motel and having found a good alternative for a wet week in the mountains.

Pulled into the Alpine Motel after a 17.5-hr stint on the road. I was so tired I was literally in tears. The gentleman at the front desk was exceptionally polite and kind, despite the hour being after midnight. The room was HUGE. I honestly couldn't believe it. TV, fridge, and amazing comfy beds. Our room was set away from the highway, so all we heard were birds and crickets. I was soundly asleep in 5 min flat. In the morning I took in the scent of honeysuckle and blooming jasmine while my dog frolicked in the GIANT field under the charming, grassy "Alpine" sign. Thank heavens for this place. It saved my sanity.

Room Tip: Request a room away from the road

This was a perfect choice for a lone traveler. Upon arrival off the Interstate there was an immediate sense of calm and quiet. The oversized room had two queen beds, a refrigerator, microwave and spacious shower/sink area. The motel faces a vista of pasture and rolling mountains. Propped outside each door are a couple of folding lawn chairs, inviting the road-weary to amble to the pasture with a favorite beverage and enjoy the evening air.
This was a weeknight stay. So it may be livelier on the weekend. The only sounds were the distant Interstate and a group of young boys playing cricket nearby.
A basic breakfast of cereal, juice and coffee is offered but was not sampled. The refrigerator and microwave made it possible to bring favorite foods and beverages.
Parking immediately in front of each room is a big plus. And most important, it felt very safe.
The restaurants of Abingdon are only a short car ride away. This was a May 20, 2013 visit as part of a road trip to NY.

My husband and I were totally delighted with our Alpine Motel experience. We needed a place to stay for the night on a long road trip with our dog and decided we'd take our chances based on reviews, price point and dog friendliness. We were not disappointed. The motel and location far surpassed our expectations. This is a total gem. The motel is situated on a ridge, with really a quite lovely view. Plenty of outdoor seating let's you decompress from driving, enjoy a glass of wine and look at the stars. The rooms are giant and clean with large refrigerators. Free wi-fi is provided. The dog had lots of room to run and a cow pasture adjoining the property provided additional entertainment. The motel is about a mile or two from downtown, which is convenient if you want to grab dinner at a finer establishment. We also enjoyed being able to park right in front of our door. And we spent less than $100 on lodging.

My husband and I stayed here on Tuesday, June, 4, 2013. We had read the reviews online and were ready for an adventure to the past, but what we got was a completely satisfying experience. Let me just list it as pros and cons.
Pros:
Price: $59.00 per night or $66 with taxes
Large, clean room with comfortable beds, updated shower and long counter with separate sink.
Good air conditioner and plenty of hot water.
Quiet, safe area with parking outside our door.
Extras you won't get anywhere else:
Beautiful mountain views enjoyed from the chair outside your room that you can move under a tree for shade if you like.
Adjoining pasture with peaceful cows and even horses further off.
An old well kept family cemetery with graves dating back to the 1800's or more.
Wonderful scent of honeysuckle wafting down from the bank.
Cons: None. Really just things you need to do like bring your own shampoo and hair dryer. Also, eat a big dinner at one of the nice restaurants in Abindgon--we did Bone Fire SmokeHouse--so all you want for breakfast is coffee and cereal--either Rasin Bran for the adults or Frosted Flakes for the kids.
We plan to stay here again and make biking the Creeper Trail an annual event.

Not for everyone but If you grew up in a family doing summer vacation road trips in the family car and staying in the small, privately owned motels before Holiday Inn changed the industry, this place will bring back those memories. Nostalgic single story motel with about 19 rooms available. Close to I-81 but no noise, very quiet and good scenic view of of the rolling hills from the two lawn chairs in front of each room. Very large rooms, basic accomodations but very clean and beds were comfortable. Bring your own toiletries such as shampoo, mouthwash as room only had towels and soap. A/C worked very well. Large yard space for the kids to play. Clean, comfortable and great memories at a very reasonable price.

Room Tip: Couldn't find a website, had to call for reservations...adds to the nostalgia.
