We interrupted Paula's dinner with family nonetheless we were greeted warmly, and escorted to our spotless room. We had the "Angler Room" which had a comfortable king size bed, and opened onto the porch overlooking the river. (as do all three rooms). Enjoyed gouing into town for a nice dinner then returned to the porch and relaxed with wine. Breakfast the next morning was a broccoli quiche accompanied by bacon , which wasdelicious, along with great pastries. Good orange juice, and my wife reports that the coffee was first rate. Paula was a genuinely nice person to be around. Overall, an excellent stay. A pleasure...

Room Tip: Other two rooms have queen beds.

I can't say enough good things about our stay at River Garden! We were in Abingdon to celebrate our anniversary, and were overwhelmed with the amazing setting, fabulous views, terrific food and the friendliness of the owners.

We pulled up to the River Garden and saw a regular-looking house. But we entered the B&B and were blown away by the beautiful up-to-date decorating (there is no china or antiques - it's modern beauty and casual elegance) and the simplicity of the deck, rustling trees and burbling Holston River.

Paula and Scott were conversational and incredibly accommodating - we felt like we'd known them for years and wanted to be friends forever. Paula's breakfast was to die for ... she REALLY knows how to make bacon :)

We only wish the inn hadn't been booked for the second night ... we transferred to another B&B, which was another excellent experience ... but we felt so at home at the River Garden, we are already planning our return visit.

My husband and I highly recommend this place. It was simply PERFECT.

We travelled to Abingdon during the tornadoes/storms of late April, and arrived late at night, to a power cut. Paula nevertheless made this an unforgettable stay - for all the right reasons. She met us with armfuls of torches, and showed us to our large, comfortable room, overlooking the river. It was so quiet and serene and we slept brilliantly - for a full 12 hours! The fact that there was no power didn't stop Paula from serving us a delicious full breakfast the next morning - her apple and cinammon french toast was to die for! The house is placed perfectly for a walk along the river or up into the hills - we only wish we could have spent longer here. We would 100% recommend the River Garden and hope to go back as soon as we can - thank you Paula for a fantastic time.

Room Tip: Any of the rooms overlooking the river

What a wonderful experience we had at The River Garden B&B. It was our first trip without kids since we had our oldest daughter who will be eight in July. The setting was just beautiful and we could not have asked for a better host. She is amazing. The breakfast both mornings was so good. She even made us a cake to help celebrate our anniversary. I would recommend this place to anyone looking to get off the beating path. It is a wonderful place to relax.

We had a wonderful stay at this B & B. Attended the Barter and had dinner at Sisters at the Martha Washington Inn. Paula wad a great hostess and served us with a great breakfast both mornings even though we told her she did not have to the last day. She also had treats for us and we enjoyed wine and cheese with the other guests with a roaring fire in the fireplace. One thing you should know is that nothing is open in Abingdon on Sunday as they consider it a day of rest. Several stores are also closed on Monday, but we had a wonderful, restful stay. We want to go back when the weather is warm to take advantage of the porches and the river. We did not know there were resident dogs until the second day and they were only allowed in when we asked to meet them.

When you first drive up you say.........On NO!. When you get to your room and have breakfast the next morning you will say OMG!. What a deal. All rooms on the river with rockers on a huge pourch. Quite.....down a winding little country road just outside of Abingdon VA. Paula is a super sweet and accomodating lady. Huge TV room upstairs complete with pool table but you won't be able to get off that river. You basically have a whole house to enjoy. Great little place. It sneaks up on you.....looks like just a regular ranch home. Nothing fancy but wait till you get inside. Again.....that river and those rockers.

This gem of a B&B is hidden on the Holsten River 15 minutes north of Abingdon, VA. Be sure to ask Paula for directions the back way into Abingdon, Very beautiful and takes you by White's Mill. Paula has lots of ideas for things to do or you can just and rock on the covered porch outside your room overlooking the river. She now has 4 rooms 3 downstairs with private entrance off the back proch and one upstairs. The family now lives in an addition off the kitchen so all of the original house is now common area. They have a mancave with 120" TV for watching movies or ballgames! Paula is very warm and welcoming and not only makes an incredible breakfast every morning but also makes other fattening goodies! If you are a very light sleeper and want to go to bed early or sleep in late know that the rooms are together off a hallway and doors can be very noisy without slamming them. They also have a large hot tub for use if you want. Paula also made reservation for onsite massages on the private part of the back porch. Also be sure to see a show at the Barter Theatre. We will definately be back!!!! Thank you Paula!!!!
