Old Town Alexandria can be a fun place to meet friends for a meal, visit during festivals, or shop antiques (pricey) stores. As a local though, it can be a difficult place to park on the street, so look for the parking garages. Stay away in the rain because it floods easily, which explains sand bags if you see them. You will be doing a lot of walking so wear comfortable shoes. Besides the water front area, there are many great restaurants within a few miles on the other side of town. The main road in and out leads to George Washington Parkway and either way offers many attractions, although a very busy bike path follows along the same trail so if you are looking for solitude don't look here.

Wonderful weekend getaway or day trip depending on how far you are. Spent the day walking along the main "King Street", especially a bonus if you like antiques. The Christmas tree lighting was a beautiful kickoff to the season. Also visited the Port Brewing company for a tour and tasting.

We had just about enough time to walk from the Metro station to the waterfront which is exactly how much time you need to fall in love with this awesome town. I seriously can't wait to return. I may never go home.

This has some cute little stores and then some mainstream stores as well. Check out Ten Thousand Villages - awesome!

Old Town Alexandria is charming and has great restaurants and unique shops. It is located on the Potomac River and has historic houses and a few cobblestone streets. You feel like George Washington is going to come strolling down the street. There is also a ferry that will take you to Georgetown, Mount Vernon, and National Harbor. It is also only 15 minutes from Washington DC and accessible by Metro (subway) and rail train. Most of the shops and restaurants on are King Street which runs through the main portion of the town. But wander down the side streets because there are a lot of hidden gems! I love visiting Old Town Alexandria and Highly recommend it.
