“not so much anymore!”
Reviewed 26 May 2014

We use to live in the neighborhood and must have eaten there 30 times over a two year period. We moved away and were so looking forward to eating there again on a return trip to visit old friends and see the city with our children. it's only been two years but everything was different. We asked the waitress who has been there a long time and she confirmed that the old chef left to open a new restaurant in Falls Church. The food was not near as good as it use to be and the menu was somewhat different and not as interesting. Soooooo disappointing! It's just not worth the cost of the meal when there are so many other great restaurants in the area. Use to be one of the best .... now ... not so much.

“Funky Place”
Reviewed 11 April 2014 via mobile

Evening Star Cafe in Delray area is a funky little place with dining area as well as 2 bars. Overall, the place is very small and quite loud. The acoustics are not very good and conversation can be difficult, but the cold beer, good food and excellent service make the effort worth it. The lounge has a nice menu of bar food in addition to regular menu. Something is on happy hour special each day as well. Outdoor seating available as well. We will return.

“Delicious dining experience but noisy”
Reviewed 15 January 2014

My dining partner and I went to Evening Star for a delicious dinner. As an appetizer, I had the fried green tomatoes, and she had the Caesar salad. Both appetizers were delicious. For the entree, I had the duck, and she had the pork chop. The plates were well composed, the food was scrumptious, the light smoke flavor of the pork was a lovely element and the sweet potato hash was a perfect compliment to the meat. My duck was perfectly cooked, it was laid out on a bed of hazelnut dirty rice. As a person with Louisiana roots, I would not say the dirty rice was true to its namesake, but it was delicious.

The front entrance was closed due to the cold, and we were routed around to the side to a door with a different name on it. There was confusion about this both for us and for another party that arrived at the same time. The restaurant is noisy and the addition of 3 screaming babies did nothing to help this ambiance. But, the food and the service were wonderful, and I do plan to go back in the near future.

“Professional service & Good Food”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

enjoyed interesting well-cooked food here early one Saturday evening although we were a bit mystified you had to go through the Majestic Bar doorway to get to the restaurant. Strange unique artworks made of erector sets, lights bulbs and other bits and pieces deck the walls etc.

“Delightful and Delish!!”
Reviewed 20 November 2013

We stumbled on this restaurant, not knowing its reputation, but the decor (clever and unusual with lots of erecter set materials) and the food captivated us. I had my first fried chicken and waffles. Wow! (Could have used a tad more syrup, but the spicy butter was inspired). The bloody mary had too much black pepper, but the mini grilled cheese and bacon atop it made up for that!!
