Description: Vermilion features Chef William Morris' menu of Contemporary American cuisine. Complimenting Chef Morris' menu is Vermilion's wine list, named one of the top wine lists in the country by Restaurant Hospitality Magazine. Combining a charming location in Old town Alexandria with stylized design and atmosphere, Vermilion represents a bit of downtown sophistication: from the exposed brick in the upstairs dining room to the overstuffed pillows in the lounge downstairs, Vermilion holds something for all tastes.

“VERY SMALL PORTIONS, SERVICE JUST OKAY”
Reviewed 13 July 2013

I went here with three friends for a birthday celebration. The portions for each of us were really skimpy. For example, $17 dollars for a salmon dish that was about 3-4 inches across with very little to accompany it. Also, we shared a dessert and the waiter only brought us one plate. No was around to help us get more plates so I searched around and found some by a bar area.
The lunch was disappointing for the lack of value. I am rating the value a 1 of 5. The food quality was good but the restaurant should not assume its patrons are all on starvation diets.

“Repeat lunch visit did not disappoint”
Reviewed 29 June 2013

Had Saturday brunch with two girl friends; have been here several times for lunch and have found the restaurant consistently good for service and food. Even though chef Tony Chittum is no longer at Vermillion, the new chef is doing just fine and there was no loss of excellence. Shared a blackened catfish with red cabbage slaw sandwich with fries and homemade sweet pickle chips and the salmon with smoked eggplant and spinach. Both were perfect. Third person got a eggs with homemade pork sausage, two deep fried potato latkes and toast. We shared the ricotta fritters with lemon curd and torched marshmallow. My guests were impressed with the quality.

“Select Menu Excellent Preparation”
Reviewed 28 June 2013

this is a restaurant with a limited menu but well thought out selections. our table selected salmon and rockfish and all were excellent. the beet salad was memorable, the goat cheese a great pairing with the chilled cooked beets. rock fish was outstanding, honey cap mushrooms and yellow beans served underneath. Upstairs room was very loud, request downstairs if you wish to have a better chance of hearing your table conversations. Service was attentive but not overbearing.

“Wine specials”
Reviewed 5 June 2013

I've only had appetizers and wine there. The apps were "good" but nothing special. The wine specials are what draws me in.

“Great meal and a bargain as well.”
Reviewed 3 June 2013

Four of us dined at Vermilion on a Sunday night and chose the tasting menu paired with wines for $88 per person. After dining at a number of the top rated restaurants in the DC and Virginia area, I would say the food, wines and service were among the best we had and at a very reasonable price. We would dine here again without hesitation.
