Description: Restaurant Eve has one intention: to bring everything together in perfect harmony-ingredients, cooking techniques, presentation, and that ephemeral, indescribable characteristic that we call soulfulness. We purchase from farms that share our values of quality and sustainability, and showcase the best hand-fed, farm-raised, organically grown bounty Virginia and the surrounding countryside have to offer. Herbs and fruits are gathered from our own garden and everything on our menu has a story, every ingredient is special. From the various offerings of house-made products (which include 7-9 various breads baked daily and artisanal cheeses); to the roster of craft cocktails, by cocktail authority Todd Thrasher; to our carefully chosen ingredients, everything signals a seriousness and reverence for the farmers, crafters, and all the culinary professionals who wish to bring you beautiful food. Restaurant Eve, named after the husband and wife duo's first child, is located in Old Town, Alexandria, listed by many travel sites as one of the most romantic towns in America, 10 minutes from Washington DC, Restaurant Eve is housed in a late 1800's historic warehouse that has been converted into a charming and sophisticated destination. The cobblestone path leading to the restaurant's entrance is lined with candles that set the tone of what is to come. Inside, the space is simultaneously stylish, cozy and refined-a place where special occasions are fondly remembered.

“No Diet Coke”
Reviewed 25 October 2013

In case you visit Restaurant Eve hoping for a refreshing Diet Coke, you will find that they only serve an all-natural Stevia-based drink -- although our waiter did volunteer to run over to CVS and pick one up. My Diet Coke aficionado boyfriend turned down the offer but lamented that he could taste the difference. Soda aside, the ambiance at Restaurant Eve -- the low lights, cushy unmatched chairs, and the cozy feeling of the table -- is a treat. The food, however, was not all that I expected. I had gnocchi, and it was rather bland, even though I asked for it without onions and that request went unheeded. (They offered to take it back, but who wants to play the, "You go ahead, I'll catch up" game?) My boyfriend got steak, and it was fine but nothing that leaves me salivating just thinking about it. Overall, it's a beautiful place in a great location, but the food did not match the culinary expectations I had.

“Is restaurant eve slipping?”
Reviewed 20 October 2013

I generally like nothing more than sitting at the bar at RE and enjoying a glass of wine and some light fare. What I find rather unacceptable is maintenance work being carried out behind the bar at 5.30pm on a weeknight. If it was urgent thats one thing, but this seemed to be general maintenance. It distracted the bar staff, who were chatting to a former employee. Not up to the deserved high standard of this usually fine restaurant.

“Outstanding experience in every way”
Reviewed 13 October 2013

This was our special evening dinner out in our Alexandria weekend. The side entry makes the location feel away from the hustle of King St. Service was top notch from start to finish: hostess, waiter, sommelier, etc. All polite, professional, friendly well dressed but certainly not overbearing. Food was excellent: gravlax, fish stew, chocolate dessert. Timing was perfect, no feeling of being rushed or of waiting forever for the next course. We were in the bistro, it was easy to talk and be heard in low voices even with the room three quarters full. Substantial wine list with several we like, prices were reasonable (less than I had feared at a high end restaurant).
Not one aspect was less than stellar. We plan to return our next trip to Alexandria in a few months.

“Long over due visit and satisfied in the end”
Reviewed 13 October 2013 via mobile

We tried to book on our last trip but could not get it. Everything there is perfect, from decor, service and food! All the dishes that we ordered were perfectly done. The basque stew and monkfish were very interesting and outstanding!

“Didn't add up”
Reviewed 28 September 2013

They've gotten rid of most of the affectations, but the evening didn't add up to the hype. We've been to this restaurant a number of times and enjoyed the food but thought the service was self-conscious and, frankly, annoying.

This has been taken care of but, last night, a number of other flaws emerged: took 26 minutes for our drinks to arrive; asked for one "rock" in my scotch and it arrived neat (and the waiter disappeared before I could bring it to his attention); the special entre (saddle of lamb) that was first offered turned out to not be available; my rockfish was served with a "lobster glace" that looked pretty but had little flavor.

The room is pleasant but the tables are too close to avoid having to learn about what the neighboring diners are discussing, which makes conversation with your partner difficult. And the chairs aren't particularly conducive to a relaxed experience (I'd prefer arms).

The cost was $175 (including tip), which is average for a nice restaurant in the DC area.

All in all, it's still a nice place but I wasn't as impressed as I was supposed to be.
