Train station across the street from the rooms in the rear of the building. 4:30AM train whistles awaken you in the AM. Front Desk wouldn't change room to the front of the building. The Wyndham solution: EAR PLUGS! However, the rooms were remodeled.

Room Tip: Get a front room!

I have to give this place an average at the time of this review. I've stayed at this location before, back in 2006, and it was a much better place in terms of colonial charm and decoration.

The place is super clean. The front desk service is great. Location is spot on to the Metro - King Street Station. It's about a 15-20 minute walk stroll down Alexandria to the Wharf. It was our suite that was disappointing. The remodel we stayed in included bare, cream colored walls with some furniture in it. What happened to the blue presidential carpet, the photos of DC and Alexandria hanging on the walls, the striped red/white furniture in the living room, the cherry oak cabinets in the kitchen? Maybe the remodel wasn't complete as the suite still smelled like fresh paint. Also, our suite was located next to the Metro tracks, so you could hear the cars going by. Just a little noisy but it goes with the territory. No timeshare sales people hounded or bothered us. I used the fitness center the morning before our departure. Nicely equipped with top-of-the-line machines, but they need some fans or at least give access to the temperature gauge as it felt like a sauna in there.

We'd stay here again, but would hope Wyndham adds back the charm to its rooms.

This is our favorite place to stay when visiting DC.

This is one block off the Metro in Old Town Alexandria. It is just two stops south of Reagan Airport and within walking distance of the waterfront area. The units are very well maintained and comfortable. You have free internet and free parking. The Metro is so convenient that we do not get a car unless we are traveling outside the DC area.

The front desk and welcome were very friendly. If you are a timeshare owner, the survey was short and sweet.

Depending on your room location, there might be noise from the Metro and Amtrak but it did not disturb us. There is a small workout room but no hot tub. You share the pool with Hilton next door.

This time share is located within a block of the metro station that goes into Washington, DC. For $22 each, we traveled back and forth for 5 days and really enjoyed our travels. The metro is clean and mostly quick (one delay on the weekend for track repairs). You can get off within a few blocks of all the Smithsonian museums. The room was very nice - we overlooked the tracks, but didn't find them very bothersome. The bathroom was strange though. Two rooms with a sink and jacuzzi in one room and the commode, shower and another sink in the second. We could have used another toilet instead. Nicely furnished and a good bed. The biggest complaint we had was that we received a call from Erica at the front desk at 4:30AM telling us our taxi was there - but we never ordered a taxi. In fact, we had asked them to mark our room for a late check-out! We tried to find Erica in the morning, but she was already gone. Surprise! The owners meeting was fairly low pressure, but we told them we had inherited these time shares and absolutely did not want more! They tried anyway, but did get us out in the promised 30 minutes. We would go back to this timeshare mostly due to its great location. Restaurants, grocery store, etc. within minutes of walking. Very pretty area in Alexandria and the local trolley goes up and down King Street regularly. And, it's free!

We had extra points left in our Wyndham Timeshare and decided to use them for a little vacation near home. Actually this was very convenient for my husband because he could actually walk to work from this location! We spent three nights in a 2 bedroom, which was the first time we had stayed in a 2 bedroom at this resort. the living area is very large in this unit. We had a Christmas party with some friends one evening in our unit and were able to get parking passes for our guests so that they could get free parking. We spent another 2 nights in a one bedroom. Wyndham offered to move our things from one room to the next during the transition. We like the size of the 1 bedroom for 2 people. We love the location of the Wyndham Old Alexandria. It is right across the street from Metro, so you can actually fly into Reagan National and get by without a car. It is only a mile walk to the Potomac River with lots of restaurants and shopping. It is easy to walk around Old Town or there is a free trolley that runs up and down King Street. There is so much to do that the hotel does not have a lot of sponsored activities. There was a wine & cheese event on Monday late afternoon-early evening. You can check out board games if you choose and you can use the small inside pool at the Hilton. Cookies and popcorn are offered in the common areas. Both of our units were on the side of the building that faced the Metro and train tracks. Some people have complained about the noise, but we have to say we slept very well with very little noise. The trains did not use their horns until at least 6:30 AM each morning and that wasn't every day. We also did not hear horns after 8 PM. I suppose it is what you are used to as to whether the trains would keep you awake. We live several miles away from tracks, but when the leaves are off the trees in the winter we hear the trains from our house. Semis speeding on highways tend to keep me awake more than trains. We did not hear our neighbors in either of the units. I think the noise was a very comfortable level and not having to deal with DC area traffic is a huge bonus. Our granddaughter also was very entertained watching the trains one of the days that we stayed in. It was very cold the days that we stayed there and we were happy that so many restaurants delivered. There is a Wholefood Grocery nearby for a few groceries. La Porta Restaurant is also an easy walk and offers 2 meals and a bottle of wine for $28.99 on Mon & Tues nights. We drove over to National Harbor one evening for dinner. It would be nice if there were a free or less expensive shuttle offered from one Wyndham to the other. By the time you pay for the water taxi for 2 people it is more expensive than paying the $11 parking garage fee and there is plenty of parking at National Harbor. We stayed here just for the convenience of enjoying the Old Alexandria area without having to drive in. It's a great place for seeing Washington DC though with the Metro so nearby! And last but not least the wireless internet was free and fast..

Pros: Comfortable, clean, upscale, well-equipped suite kitchens, washer and dryer for guests use on every floor, easy parking at the next door Hilton parking garage, friendly, knowledgeable, helpful staff who remembered my name and acted like they like where they work, safe and well-lit neighborhood, a block from the King Street Metro station , a couple blocks from Whole Foods store, many neighborhood restaurants and shops of all kinds within walking distance or short cab ride or King Street trolley. The rooms I saw were tastefully decorated with calm Federal colors and prints from American history. Enjoyed an expansive view of the Capitol Building and Washington Monument from my window, and watching planes land at nearby Reagan Airport (not noisy). The ride to L'Enfant Metro Station in D.C. takes about 35 minutes. Cons: rooms on the side of the building near the Metro tracks are noisy while Metro runs 6am-1am; the interior walls are not well insulated so neighboring family's conversations, kid exuberance and crying were loud and clear; no vending machines on the floors - you have to walk down to lobby to the little snack and essentials shop for your water bottle; the bathtub did not drain well and the icemaker in the fridge did not work; reported but not repaired during my stay.

This hotel is beautiful, convenient to Washington D.C., and had a 2 bdrm suite (room 107) which was perfect for a family of four. One bedroom had two queen beds and the other had one king bed. Both bedrooms had their own TV and the living room had both a TV and DVD player. A good selection of DVDs was available for $3 rental at the front desk. The sitting area was as big as a typical condo living room, and the kitchen was full sized with basic equipment including a coffee pot, microwave, and even a blender. There is a two-computer "business center" off the lobby. There is high speed wireless internet, but it's inconsistently available. Sometimes I had to walk my laptop out to the lobby to get it to connect. I wouldn't have bothered except for the need to get some work done.

We didn't use the swimming pool, but I think they have one as well as an exercise facility. There is a separate room off the lobby with basic snack food items and each floor has a complimentary full sized washer and full sized dryer for guest use. I wouldn't have any hesitation at all in recommending it except for one thing - It's a vacation resort time share and you literally can not walk through the lobby without being accosted by an aggressively over-friendly sales representative pushing you to attend a one hour presentation on the time share ownership program. It begins with a "welcome package" of toiletries brought to your room by a sales rep. before you've even had a chance to get the suitcases into the bedroom. They offer you $100 cash if you'll go - and I suppose that some people would find that worth a lost hour of time, but we were in Washington for a family vacation and didn't want to give up our time. I politely declined using the typical kinds of responses such as "I don't think we're interested", or "There's really no chance of us buying a time share." Nothing short of "Go Away!" would have worked. It was so annoying that it got to the point where I'd peek my head out of our door to see if it was safe to cross the lobby. If you can stand the hard sales pitch, you'd be hard pressed to find a hotel that was nicer, more reasonably priced for what you get, or more convenient to a Metro stop (literally around the corner). I just wish they'd cool it with the hard sell. I wouldn't go back there because of it. There's a Hilton next door and an Embassy Suites across the street.
