A friend and I had dinner a few weeks ago at Bistro du Soleil on the upper end of King Street near the Metro here in Alexandria. It may not be terribly well known, but should be. The atmosphere was very pleasant with classical Spanish guitar playing in the background. The servers were excellent, and when we had finished our main course, our server even sent us a complimentary desert. For the price we paid, it was excellent...probably the best babaghanouj that I've ever had! Everything was delicious! Bistro du Soleil has an interesting menu selection of dishes from all parts of the Mediterranean. Even though they did not have live music when we were there on a Thursday night, I understand that on the weekends that they do have musicians performing appropriate music for the atmosphere. I've recommended it to all my coworkers and look forward to going there again.

We eat a lot of Mediterranean food and this was at the bottom of the scale. Service was attentive; however music was quite depressing and inappropriate (sad French). Most importantly, food was served too quickly and fairly tasteless. Paella was soaked in tomato paste and butter. Best dish was the carrots in the mixed appetizer. And it still looks exactly like Casablanca, which was dark and heavy. Not a return for us.

Excellent Mediterranean food and service. We returned the next night as everything on the menu looked soooo good and it was. Great atmosphere, my grandson loved it too.

Located on King Street, just a few short blocks from the King Street Metro, diners on the prowl for new and exciting venues for exotic food, caring and attentive service, a full bar and casual fun in lovely, Morroco-like surroundings;
Your search is OVER.
BISTRO du SOLEIL, 1504 King Street, Alexandria is for you!
With high ratings from all the TripAdvisor “pretenders”, now you have the genuine, TripAdvisor confidence to try it.
Call Aziz for your reservation. 571-312-27554 You will feel the warmth of the hospitality to come immediately—as I did. If not, just go to OPENTABLE and you are in.
While I do not have experience with all the wait staff…..ask for Selma. A more charming, attentive and knowledgeable restaurant person, you will NOT find—particularly one with such focused experience from the region.
The menu features a wide variety of Mediterranean specialties. The tapas-style presentation of many of the delectables scream out for sharing. For starters we shared Chef Samir’s falafel, the Chef’s “Hummus 3 ways” (who knew, but don’t miss them) and something special that Selma brought.
Calamari is on the menu, but call ahead to be certain this fresh delicacy is waiting for you. Very popular.
We had heard about the Bastilla. Though it is listed as an appetizer, ask Selma or your server to urge Cher Samir to make an entre size for you and share with your table….and maybe the table next to you.
These choices are NOT DC priced; or even other top tier Alexandria prices.
Speaking of tables, go for the alcove, banquette seating; a way to capture the full atmosphere of Bistro du Soleil.
The wine list offers several little known gems at VERY reasonable prices. By the time you read this and book, the list will be even better (I know they are working hard on that). If confused, order the Tempranillo.
Did I mention the live music---appropriate for the décor, brand and experience?

Just stopped in this restaurant while walking around old town area of Alexandria. We had excellent food. The waitress suggested baked brie and we tried Samir's Falalfel. Both were really excellent! She also suggested the lamb de terifa and it was excellent. Can't go wrong with this restaurant!
