We came to Amherst for the summer solstice wine festival. the inn was 5 minutes away - it was better than we expected it to be. it was a Very nice and clean room, a little on the small side, but very quiet.
We had a mini fridge and a microwave in our room. A real bargain. It looks better than the pictures

Don't be fooled by the initial impression. The Amherst Inn is one of those little traveler's motels built in about the 1940s on what were the main roads (before interstates). Most of them aren't a place I'd stay nowadays; but this one has been completely updated and is extremely clean, quiet and delightful. It even feels and smells clean. I've stayed in some of those "suite" hotels where the bedroom is just about the size of the bed. This doesn't have the fancy suite, but it has a much larger bedroom than those do. The shower is small, but the bathroom is sparkling and nothing is cracked (which is more than can be said for some "suite" hotels). Don't be fooled by the price, which is so low it makes one wonder, but this place is great! Free wifi, free coffee and danish assortments in the mornings (not lavish because it's a small motel). It's within an hour or less of the Blue Ridge Parkway, Monticello, many of the Civil War sites, and Vito's Pizza and Grill (1/2 mile away which has the best Italian food in the world and real, actually real, cannoli and New York cheesecake). We stayed a week (doing ancestry research in a 3-county area). Our room was just the right temperature when we got there (Thanksgiving week - cold outside!) and the heater/AC kept a nice soft white noise which, when combined with the excellent mattress, made for fantastic sleeping. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, and we enjoyed it completely. I don't know that it would be considered a "family" place as it doesn't have a lot of distractions for today's kids. It doesn't have a swimming pool or fitness center, but Amherst is a small historic town with buildings from the early 1800s, and nearly everything is within walking distance of the motel. What a great way to keep fit!

This was an inexpensive old but clean Mom and Pop type place. Wi-Fi was available as was a good selection of tv channels. McDonalds was across the street. This was all that was necessary for my trip. *********************************************************************8

The heater/AC in wall unit is very loud. Luckily we had an electric blanket with us. Room was very cold at check in and had to go somewhere and let it warm up. Back to change clothes and 15 minutes late to our appt. No continental breakfast of any note. OK for one night for the price.

OK, so I had not very high expectations....having suffered in other rural motels with no chain name attached. So I was pleasantly surprised by the value for the money. Came here to be ahead of the weather one night. It's locally owned by pleasant people, clean and safe (the police station is just around the corner). McDonald's is right across the street and Vito's next door (Vito's is a great place to eat or carry out). Food Lion, Jaquelina's and Subway round out the other food places within 1/4 mile, and there are two gas stations and a CVS very close for convenience. Right off Route 60 and 29.
The room had two double beds which were fairly compfortable. Mini-fridge was a surprise, as was the HD cable - on flat-panel TV. There's also free wi-fi, and enough desk space to work. The heater (a window unit) had been turned off so I had it on (along with my coat) for quite some time before the room became warm enough to relax. I'm pretty sure the carpet has only the thinnest pad between a concrete base, also keeping the room chilly. Even on low, the unit is a tad noisy but I was tired and I slept through it.
The bathroom had a shower, pedestal sink, and fan, though the fan was noisy and you don't have an option to have it on or not. Towels were clean but rough; tissues and toilet paper are soft.
Interestingly they have smoking rooms. The non-smoking rooms are on one side, the smoking rooms on the other.

Four of us recently stayed at the Amherst inn in Amherst, VA while on a hunting trip. The rooms were small, but very clean and comfortable. The bathrooms were also small, but clean with plenty of hot water. We had a refrigerator in the room which we kept beer and softdrinks in. The motel owners were very friendly. Several local restaurants are close by, offering good food. The rate was inexpensive at $45.00 plus tax and they allow pets. We look forward to our next trip to Amherst.

It was Homecoming week at Liberty University and every hotel was booked in Lynchburg. We found this small hotel up the road in Amherst, VA, near Sweet Briar College. Now, the rooms are small, and the bathroom even smaller, with a walk in shower you have to kind of squeeze into. But the bed was comfortable. And, for 53 dollars a night, it comes with a small refrigerator, microwave, and free WI FI, whch worked continuously. The staff is very friendly, and the rooms were made up every day. Whiel they do not provide breakfast, there is a McDonalds and Marathon across the street, and several local eateries, including an excellent pizzeria called Vitos. We actually walked down there. All in all, I will use this hotel as my first choice in future travels.

Room Tip: It really doesn't matter what room you get.
