“They serve hot soy milk and crullers!”
Reviewed 29 September 2013

I finally found a place that serves the sweet and salty versions of hot soy milk and Chinese crullers. They only serve it during certain times, so check first. It is a tiny hole-in-the-wall place that only seats maybe 40 at a time, but the service is quick and friendly. Their menu/ordering process could be improved a little...They have a menu and a corresponding paper that you check off what you want, but it is easy to order the wrong item accidentally because there are so many items and lines. Would be easier to just make the menu the order sheet, so you are not needing to transpose.

The soy milk/crullers were great...just what I was looking for. The other dim sum-like dishes were okay - some better than others. Overall a good valute (our bill was about $53 for 6 people, including soy milk/crullers for all and about 7 dim sum dishes).

They are CASH only and do not take reservations.

“A hidden gem!”
Reviewed 22 July 2013

I heard about A&J Restaurant in MD but I found this place as I was walking out the door after my lovely lunch at a Ramen place (Tanpopo Ramen).

I snicked in there to grab a menu and ended up returning to this place within a week. I enjoyed ordering small dishes before a noodle soup. I felt like being in a dim sum place but ordering bunch of smaller dishes. I enjoyed authentic Chinese food instead of typical General Tso, Kung Pao stuff. Szechuan style beef and tendon noodle soup is out of this world. It's spicy, yet not spicy, but spicy enough to kick in, yet it is not. Eventually, it numbs your tongue but it does not burn your mouth and stomach immediately. Sounds bad but actually it is a pleasant feeling. And very good. The only disappointment was that Xiao Long Bao didn't have soup. Rather dry. I mentioned it to the restaurant but they said it is a just different style of XLB. I believe it. I recommend this place to anyone.

BTW, Credit card is not accepted. only Cash.

“Great little place”
Reviewed 20 November 2012

This is a great little place for excellent wonton soup, great dumplings etc. While it isn't "dim sum" per sae, it is the type of place you want to share what you get! The prices are really reasonable, but you know note, it is cash only. There is a B of A across the street and a Wells Fargo and TD Bank as well. Parking is good as well. Overall, its great for a nice afternoon or awesome Chinese food!

“Best Authentic Chinese”
Reviewed 5 January 2012

I am Chinese and this is one of the best Chinese restaurents in the US that you can go for authentic northern Chinese food with very reasonable price. I take my friends and coworkers all the time to A&J and no one ever has negative comments about it. I patronize the place at least once a week. You won't got your typical sweet and sour whatever on the menu here but everything on the menu is authentic and delicious. The menu itself is very descriptive and indicative of what's going to come and the quality of food is always consistent. The only downside is it's cash only but I can't imagine that it will cost more than $15 per person. Do give it a try and I am sure that it may be the best Chinese experience you ever have.
