We stayed at the Americana for almost a week while visiting DC. A friend had recommended it, and we were not disappointed. It is a no-frills place next to a highway but clean, comfortable and well managed. And the prices are very reasonable. One of the main pluses is convenience - the metro yellow and green lines are just a block away and take you into the heart of DC in a few minutes. So although you're a bit outside the city it really doesn't feel like it. The neighborhood is blah to look at but seems safe. The staff was friendly and helpful as well. The only minuses were that the decor and furnishings are really quite dated and basic. In fact, when we first arrived we were a bit apprehensive upon seeing the rundown sign for the hotel and the peeling carpet in the elevator. But seeing our room put us at ease. Keep in mind the breakfast is just coffee, orange juice and pastries, so don't expect too much. But overall, this place scores above its price range in my opinion, and I would recommend it for the bargain traveler looking for a good place to stay.

Don't expect much - not even what is promised on the website/adverts.
If you just want a basic room, that is clean this place is cheap (for the US) and ok.

But the internet connection only works in the hallway; the breakfast would run out by 8am and most of what was supposed to be there wasn't.
There were NO instructions about anything in the room (e.g. how to use the phone, what time breakfast was, laundry...)

And I think the lock on the room could've easily been pushed open by anyone who really wanted to get into my room, so not entirely safe.

Yep. It was ok. But not fantastic.

The Americana is a very basic motel that is aimed at the budget traveler looking for a simple, no-frills accommodation. The hotel is very affordable and the free breakfast adds to the value. Great location a couple of blocks from the D.C. Metro and a short commute to most D.C. attractions.

Our room was fairly spacious, although the furnishings had a worn/dated look. There was no clock or safe but otherwise all the basic necessities were provided, including a mini-fridge (but no microwave). Breakfast consisted of the standard continental fare of bagels, donuts, and cold cereal - the hotel website claims that fresh fruit is provided, but we didn't see any, or it was all grabbed up within the first hour of breakfast.

For some reason, we had trouble with the WiFi internet. The signal strength seemed adequate and the front desk gave us a password, but we never managed to connect. It didn't bother us too much at the time, but later it turned out that we had missed an important email.

Mid-way through our stay it became chilly, and the heat in the room did not work. The front desk gave us a small space heater to plug into the wall, which helped a lot but was still not entirely adequate to properly heat the room. Also we found out that the front desk does not give out extra blankets, we had to put in a request to have one delivered by the housekeeping staff during cleaning.

Overall no major complaints, but the situation with the heat might give us some pause about staying there again-- hopefully they are working to fix the heater/AC unit in all the rooms.

Is an older hotel, it was clean and had a limited continental breakfast, would like to have had some fresh fruit and hot cereal. There was a refrigerator in the room, iron and ironing board but no coffee pot or microwave.

The hotel staff was nice. The hotel was convienent to the tram and was well in within our limited budget.

It is pretty much what the other reviewers have said. It is older but very clean. The staff were all very friendly and spoke good english. It was close to everything, I could see the Washington Monument from our room. The Metro was nearby and very convenient. They have a shuttle if you are not comfortable with the Metro, although we felt very safe on the metro. The room was good size. If I had a complaint it would be that the pipes are noisy in the morning when other guests are showering. Next time I will bring a noise maker to drown that out. It was nice and quite all night despite being next to the highway. For the price I would definitely stay there again. I also noticed alot of pilots checking in and out there, it is close to Reagan airport. I have one suggestion, book online from their website, it will save you quite alot!

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights on a recent vacation to DC. The location is excellent. One block from the Metro and three blocks from a large shopping mall. Also many restaurants in the area.

The rooms are definitely outdated and the elevator was a little scary but our room was always clean and the staff was friendly. We had plenty of space in our room and everything worked fine. Since we only spent our time here sleeping it was perfect for us. We had full days of sightseeing so it was nice to have a short walk back from the Metro to crash at. The most unique thing is that they still have actual keys for the rooms. My husband loved that.

The breakfast was sufficient and the lobby was full most mornings we were there.

The price was great and the location was outstanding. We would not hesitate to stay here again.

The one best thing about the Americana is that it is very close to the Crystal City metro station, less than 5 minute walk. Otherwise, it is a hotel property that is in need of a remodel. Decor is very outdated. We had yellow and black ceramic tile from the 60's in bathroom, cold water did not work in sink and A/C heat unit appeared to be very abused. Hotel was reasonably quiet and neighborhood was o.k. No clocks in the rooms, very wierd.
