Accessible via public transport, this is a fitting tribute to the victims of the Pentagon attack on 9/11 2001. It is like a memorial garden and is apparently just as beautiful to visit at night. I only saw it during the day. There is also a memorial inside the Pentagon which you can visit and pay your respects to also but only by doing the Pentagon tour.

You do have to remember this is the HQ of the USA's department of defense and its military. The memorial serves as a reminder that it USA is still vulnerable to attack and therefore security is going to be paramount. How can you expect it not to be? There are clear signs of where you can take photographs (in and around the memorial garden is fine) and where you cannot. If you find yourself being stopped by the Pentagon Police you are clearly taking photographs of where you are no supposed to be! Read and obey the signs and you will have no problems.

First. No photos. Next, while our Army private tour guide was a personable fellow, there's only so much he can do. The tour of the facility is impressive, but ultimately it's just a big giant office building. You can't really stop along the way and see much. You can get the same information from a book or the internet. It's an hour long tour, but you could skip it. The 9/11 Memorial is nice, but you don't need a tour for that. Give yourself 20 minutes and that's all you'll need.

The Pentagon tour will take you past the interior entrance to the memorial but won't spend much time there. It can be accessed from the outside by walking around the parking lot. It's a solemn experience, especially when you start looking at the the year the victims were born. It's quiet and reflective.

It is hard to get to.......if you are taking a tour no problem. Do not follow the historic brown signs. Personal parking is best done at Pentagon City and then walk thru the tunnel to the memorial. It is impressive. I have been to all 3 and each memorial represents their own participation in 9/11. To see how close the flight route was to everything in Washington takes on a different feeling than when you just see it on the news. A lot of thought went into the design of this memorial - even down to the direction of the benches (facing towards the Pentagon the person was on the plane and facing away from the Pentagon the person was in the Pentagon).Make the stop. It is well worth it and take the time to experience it. Very moving.

This memorial should not be overlooked. The design beautifully honors the people who lost their lives who were in the Pentagon and on the flight. The benches for each person with their reflection pool is nice with the direction of the bench to represent if they were on the flight of the ground is nice.
It is also situated in a perfect location between the Pentagon and Arlington cemetery. You can see the Air Force Memorial from this memorial, but you should drive the few minutes to see it also.
The directions to the memorial is not easy, drive into the memorial area. Stay to the left once in the parking lot and go as far three the end of the lot to parking lot.
