Owner description: The pre-Civil War residence of legendary Confederate general Robert E. Lee, this Greek revival mansion was taken over by Union troops, and the estate was used to bury the war dead. Overlooking the Potomac and the grounds of what is now Arlington National Cemetery, the home has been restored as a memorial to Lee.

When we went in the Ranger was called away and we were left alone. The house is OK but we have seen Southern Plantations that are much better. The outside is very picturesque.

No visit to Arlington is complete without going to see Arlington House. They do a marvelous job at the home of giving you a brief history of Robert E. Lee and the Civil War. The volunteers also do a nice job of describing the various rooms and what they were used for during the time. The views of Washington and the cemetery are spectacular. Don't miss this.

While travelling through Arlington, this house can be seen from nearly anywhere. The staff at the house does a really good job; you start by sitting in some rows of benches where they give you the history on how Arlington came to be and more on the life of Robert E. Lee and Washington.

The house itself was pretty cool, I can't imagine many houses back in those days had such grandeur. Definitely stop here if you are at Arlington, its worth the walk-through.

Home of Confederate General Robert E Lee. Highest site in Arlington cemetery which provided awesome view of a good portion of the cemetery and also DC from a distance. Good history lesson on George Washington and his connection with Robert E Lee.

The house is free to enter but there is a managed queue to facilitate the flow of small parties to move through the house. There was a very good NPS warden on the door who gives an introductory talk about the house, civil war and Robert E Lee. Once in there are costumed volunteers to tell you about the rooms you're seeing and give you more background. Very well done
