Slowing your pace down from activities of Washington DC, Arlington, Virginia parks are the diamonds in the rough. Arlington has approximately 151 parks with casts of human and animal characters. Long Branch Nature Center (17 Acres) has live displays, hiking trails, conservation and educational programs, and a kid-friendly discovery room. When you enter the park, a stream flows through the woods past a small pond. Today the wood frogs where jumping around – somewhere. The signs were up: SLOW AMPHIBIANS CROSSING. We didn’t see any vital signs.
It is a lovely park but what most people don’t know is that the spy Robert Hanssen came to Long Branch Nature Center, code name LEWIS. Read: http://www.arlingtonmagazine.com/July-August-2012. Come to this most fascinating park, take in the beauty and find out where the spy monies were placed. A program discussion of the events was held in February by one of the most knowledgeable persons in the Arlington County Parks and Recreation system. We caught this program a few years back and if you attend this program you will find out who, besides wood ducks, flying squirrels, raccoons, woodpeckers, are looking at the spy.
The peepers will be out soon at the nature center.
