“Great experience in the middle of nowhere”
Reviewed 23 July 2010

I stayed here during a large conference. I found my room and the facilities to be top notch. As a vegetarian, I found the dining options really limited, but I managed to make due; what I did try was delicious, if a little pricey. My complaint about this facility is that it's far from tons of places in DC including Union Station and Dupont Circle (I name these places because my cab rides to these sites were expensive).

Stayed 5 nights while attending a conference. Our 18th floor room was clean, comfortable, spacious, well appointed and had a fairly nice view of nothing in particular but at least were weren't staring at other buildings. The bath was modern and clean but the lighting was poor. The buffet was forgetable and cheaper than ordering from the menu but next time I'll go with the menu. This hotel is a few blocks from the nearest Metro station and Washington DC proper is only a few stops away. Very convenient.

The front desk staff could give training seminars to other hotels' staff on how to "do it right". So gracious, very accommodating. My room was very spacious and comfortable. The elevator is slow to arrive. Charging for Internet access is standard in big cities, but free whenever I stay in a smaller town. Why? I declined to pay the fee. The bed was quite nice.
The hotel is undergoing renovation. The only thing that set this property apart from the usual was the kindness and professionalism of every employee I encountered.

The good: easy and efficient check-in, clean rooms, good group rate for reunion, and regular shuttles to the Metro station. The bad: thin walls (I actually heard my neighbor roll up their blinds), exhorbitant parking fee (I parked my car elsewhere), no free wireless internet, and unfriendly policy regarding mileage points. I did not have my American Airlines account number and was told I could call it in later to get points. When I called a day after my stay, I was told they can only give me points during my stay but not after. However, had I been in their Silver Club or whatever they call their own hotel loyalty club, they would processed my mileage points after the fact. Stupid policy.

Clean. Quiet. Small room. No view. Excellent A/C comfort control. Very close to Reagan International. Free shuttle to airport and metro. Expensive valet only parking ($25/night). No free wifi. No free breakfast. Even cartoons for the kids cost extra! At least we could get the weather channel! The employees were courteous but I felt like they were hustling for tips. We went way over budget.
We chose it because we were there to pick up grandson's mom from the airport. Her plane was late and we missed the last shuttle back (midnight). Had to take a cab. At least it was close.
If you are going to see DC stay somewhere else--you'll be exhaused getting back there at the end of the day. And there are other places that are much better for tourists.

The Hyatt has great business facilities, whether it be in your room, or in its ample conference/exhibition facilities.

But equally provides a relaxed convivial environment to do business and/or entertain clients.

By no means is this property a dump but definately seemed to fall short in many ways when you think of Hyatt Regency quality.

Check in was fast but the attendant wasn't overly friendly or helpful in regards to hotel ameneties or directions. The hotel lobby was spacious and clean.

The elevators were fast and the hallways clean and inviting.

The room itself was clean but not up to the standard of other Hyatt Regency's i've stayed in prior. The carpeting was old and had some stains on it. There was also something stuck into the carpet close to the desk. The flat screen television was nice but somewhat undersized for the room. The bed was very comfortable with quality bedding.

Internet service was $10 per day and provided by T-Mobile.

Room service was a huge disappointment. A simple chicken breast, 5 fingerling potatoes and a small portion of green beans along with a Diet Coke came to the wallet busting total of: $45. That scores a big fat zero on the value scale since the portion was so ridiculously small i could have probably eaten about ten of them (or in Hyatt Regency absurdity: $450 worth of chicken and green beans).

The bathroom was updated but very small. The stream from the shower head was unacceptably small and the stream was very weak. It took me probably an extra 15 minutes to shower due to the weak stream. The towels provided were probably some of the best i've ever experienced in a hotel.

Valet parking is the only kind provided and it too is grossly overpriced at $20.

Hyatt properties are usually a safe bet but this particular property was definately a huge disappointment.
