The women in our family plan a yearly weekend retreat to make things, shop, and just generally bond. I arrived at the Nantucket Inn without super-high expectations - we always have a lot of fun, but we always share rooms and have experimented with varying levels of fanciness. After a long, busy day at work, I walked into a delightfully cozy living room where we all curled up together to talk and watch the Olympics. The spacious, immaculate kitchen across the hall had a Keurig coffee maker, a selection of teas, fresh fruit, and just-baked cookies on offer. Matt, our host, was almost clairvoyant in his understanding of what we might need - a warm and charming person. It was like going to spend the weekend with an old college friend who has a knack for pampering people and making great food. The breakfast was delicious - it'll be a great downfall the next time I stay at a chain hotel that offers breakfast and being faced with cardboard cereal and other excruciatingly processed foods. My little bedroom was quaint, pretty, and comfortable.
I was sorry to leave, but I'll be back.
