“Great alternative to chain restaurants for lunch”
Reviewed 7 October 2012

I am in the area a lot on business. Since the spring I've had lunch at NASA maybe a dozen or more times, and have yet to had a bad one. Burgers, sandwiches, soups and the rest are all solid and well prepared. Service is generally good, although they can be a bit slow with the check-- it is a small place and sometimes busy. It's a great place for business lunches, you can spread out. My wife and i meet here sometimes for lunch as well and she loves it.

Reason for the five star review: the food is about on par with Red Robin, Boston's and others across the highway (and much harder to get to). The prices are probably a bit lower so good value. But the location and ambiance are unique. You sit right on the flightline of a large private airport, and in nice weather can eat on the deck outside. We did that recently in the shadow of a restored B-25. It doesn't get cooler than that. This is the authentic place that 93rd Aero Squadron and others try to emulate-- great food, good prices and real airplanes. If you want an alternative to chain restaurants for business or social eating, highly recommended.

“Good venue, poor food and service. :-(”
Reviewed 14 April 2012

The place was empty at 2:00 PM on a sunny Friday during lots of aviation activity on the field. No wonder--the coffee was low quality and pie (small slice, large price) was Sara Lee (yes, they cooked a frozen pie from the grocery!). What a shame, because this location SHOULD be bustling from the opportunities in the area. :-(

“Excellent Venue with Front Row View/Access to Arlington Airfield!”
Reviewed 10 November 2011

I have been to this restaurant over the years, while it was under different ownership/management. The location has always been fantastic for pilots and locals wanting to watch airplanes from the front line.

After living out of state the past couple years, I recently relcated back to the area and rediscovered this place. The service and food quality has improved considerably under the current ownership/management. The wait staff is very friendly and knowledgable.

In October 2011, our local flying/glider community lost a dear friend, father, brother Lynn Weller, in a tragic aviation accident. We decided it would be best to hold his memorial at the airfield he loved so much and the reception as a private event at the restaurant he used to frequent. We worked with Chef Tony to plan this private catered event. He was very helpful in helping us determine the quantity and types of foods to offer the guests.

Our event was held on a Sunday afternoon went very well! The wait staff that worked that day were excellent! Chef Tony and the kitchen crew executed this event with precision. Many thanks to the entire crew at NASA from the Weller family in helping put on such an event in short notice.

Many of our guests are also pilots and they appreciated the view of the airfield and ability to watch airplanes take-off and land right in the backyard. NASA has outside seating which allows for crowd overflow on decent weather days.

The restaurant is open mainly for breakfast and lunch, but they are running extended hours on Friday PM (check ahead) and possibly other evenings to offer happy hour foods, drinks and dinners. They offer a full service: beer, wine and liquor bar.

This is quite the place to go on weekend mornings and mid-day if you want to be surrounded by local pilots and ones flying in from other airfields!

By the way, I thought that NASA stood for the space program, but it actually stands for Naval Air Station Arlington, as this was a famous, historical US Navy airfield during WWII...
