“Great hotel, great place”
Reviewed 15 November 2013

Location:
The hotel is located quite some distance from the Shinkansen station in Shin-Shimonoseki, but distance to the regular JR station is not great. Access wise it is probably better to arrive by Shinkansen via Kokura station and uing the local train to Shimonoseki.
The hotels location within the city is only 5 minutes walk from the center with the nightlife.
For getting around I would recommend using a taxi as they seem to be constantly nearby and ready for customers.

The hotel:
The hotel appears as very welcoming when you arrive. A nice open lobby with a friendly and knowledgable staff that did their utmost to provide service. Some are struggling a little with their English, but there is always someone on duty that knows more.
Breakfast is served on the first floor, and if you don't have this included I recommend you take that offer. The selection is wide and prepared as you wait.
The hotel also offers a public bath in the top floor. They claim it is water from a natural hot spring, but I can not answer for this. Had I known earlier about this bath I would go more often.

The rooms:
The rooms are the standard size Japanese rooms. For a westener this might be small, but even for me as a working westener was able to find room for all my luggage.
Beds were comfortable and the standard module bathroom served its purpose well.
As standard in the Japanese hotels I have stayed there is always aircondition, but even when not using it the air feels fresh. (I have experienced hotels that seem to have no regular ventilation).

Overall impression:
The location of this hotel and the added bath in the top floor is what made this hotel for me. I have had bad experiences with chain hotels like this before, but without a doubt this hotel changed my mind completely. I like Shimonoseki, and for the day I come back there is no doubt in what hotel I will choose.

Stayed here just for a night. It is a fair distance from the Shinkansen station but closer to the local one. Very clean, comfortable and spacious at a really good rate. Has an onsen on the top floor and vending machines on each floor - good if you need a quick beer! No wifi though. English speakers at reception if you need such a thing.

We stayed here 3 nights in June of 2012 while visiting family. Great Hotel, friendly staff. It is within walking distance to the Shimonoseki train station and shopping area. The best part, however was the onsen, Japanese spa bath, on the top floor. Beautifully designed, quite large with an inside bath and outside bath. The laundry facilities were a big help. Thank you for a lovely visit.

Stayed here 2 nights in Feb 2012. The hotel is within walking distance of JR Shimonoseki Station (note that this is not Shin-Shimoneski where some of the Shinkansen trains stop, but rather Shimonoseki station which is only served by local trains--it is about 10 minutes from Kokura station with regular service). The hotel offers a free shuttle at certain times of the day, but realistically it is not a long walk and as long as you have wheeled luggage, you will be OK. Just head out of the train station and look for the large tourist tower..walk toward that tower and turn right before you get to it and the hotel will be nearby. There are even escalators down from the elevated walkways to street level.

The hotel is a new, so there are no issues with older or outdated rooms. The rooms are, however, very small (at least for the single rooms), but the offsetting benefit is the use of the onsen on the top floor. They have indoor and outdoor section and you can relax overlooking the ocean. They have massage therapy if you want it, plus there are free laundry facilities if you need them.

Would recommend this hotel for anyone wanting to stay in the area. If you are interested in visiting the morning fish market, you would have to walk aprox 1/2 hour or take a bus or taxi.
