We had truly memorable day exploring countryside in Delvine, near Saranda. Our guide Marjo picked us up from hotel and drove us to the village near, his mother accompined us and we had really nice hike to an old monastry. They both told us history and nature facts during the hike.

After that we had delicious lunch in a little home tavern in the countryside. People were very friendly, an olderly lady even came to see us in a village because we were visiting there and gave us candy :D If we had any questions or problems Marjo solved them and was ready to help us in any way. He also arranged us visiting to vineyard in 10 minutes. We haven't seen that kind of hospitality anywhere but Albania. High recommendations!

We had a fabulous adventure with Mario on our only day in Saranda! Mario had pre-arranged a meeting spot, conveniently located
near our port. He was prompt and very professional creating a friendly atmosphere for conversation and laughter. Mario spoke excellent English and was receptive to answering our numerous inquiries, from politics to agriculture to the most current music!
This countryside exploration was enjoyed my all; amazing views of the rich vegetation, exposure to the relaxed pace of life that exists in this interesting and unique village and even some wine tasting at a local family run restaurant. The locals were friendly and extremly hospitable!
Mario was very accommodating to our needs and requests. Our day in Delvine was.a very enjoyable and educational experience. One, I am very glad we experienced and one, not to be missed if finding yourself in Saranda, Albania. Truly, a memorable and pleasurable adventure!

Had a wonderful hike in the beautiful hills of the Delvine area. Marjo was an excellent guide and spoke very good English. He collected us from our hotel, promptly at the time arranged and we made the short journey to the starting point where we were joined by his mother. We covered roughly nine kilometres at a steady pace with plenty of opportunities to to stop and take photos of the stunning landscape. A simple but very tasty lunch was prepared for us at a nearby family run restaurant. A perfect end to a lovely day. Highly recommended!

I booked a days hike with Marjo online from the UK. He kept in touch with me right up to the day before the hike. I had no idea what to expect from the day. He brought his mum with him to "make me feel more comfortable". He picked me up from my hotel in Sarande. I had a fabulous morning hiking in beautiful mountains covered in wild flowers. Filled my bottle from springs with crystal clear cold water and ate berries from the trees en route. Stunning views and great company. Nicely finished off with a great lunch in a small restaurant in the middle of nowhere. Highly recommend it!

We had arranged a trip for four people but added a fifth person at the last minute who would not be physically able to go hiking. Mario graciously arranged to have him and one other person stay and visit the small village of Delvine and return to Sarande by a Furgon.
The church we hiked to was intriguing especially inside. The structure is thought to be 1500 years old and the iconography, though difficult to see because it is damaged by soot, is mostly Eastern Orthodox. The room of the altar is divided from the nave by a white curtain iconostasis with a few framed icons, obviously of donated and modern origin, for example a Russian style icon of the Queen of heaven to the left of the entrance, one to the right of Christ which is Roman Catholic in its artistry. The walls, windows and doors were covered by various icons, some of which were apparently reworked with a pastel. One can make out the Pantocrator icon, along with some of the apostles. Despite the deterioration and damage to this structure, overall this place is a small gem in the foothills above Delvine. We also had a great time hiking the green hills and enjoying the unique characteristics of the Albanian countryside. We took many pictures. We had a bit of rain which added to the fun as we playfully hid under the olive trees. It was nice because the cool weather that came with it made the exercise more comfortable.
After our hike, we visited a local restaurant for a traditional meal of roasted lamb accompanied by salad, potatoes, and salce kos. We also sampled dhallë, a salted yogurt drink. We passed up the Albanian raki (Albanian equivalent of moonshine made from grapes and flavored with plums and juniper)
Afterward we had were fortunate to have enough time to visit a well-known spring and park which was also as beautiful as it was an amazing feat of nature.
If you want to be a traveler and not just a tourist, this is a genuine Albanian experience. Mario was a great guide. He was patient and understanding when we were late and afforded us an interesting, enjoyable and educational trip.
