“Best restaurant in town!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 August 2013

While as gourmands we generally found little satisfaction during our six days stay in the city of Saranda, we really did enjoy the meals we had at the downstairs restaurant at the Grand Hotel complex. The service almost immaculate, we took four or five meals there. Grilled fish and fresh fruit; beautifully al-dente pasta!

We arrived in Sarande around midday on May 15th and chose the Grand after a drive around the area.

We were able to check in straight away and had rooms overlooking the sea. The rooms were bit cramped, mainly due to the huge bed frame, but adequate. The balcony was large enough and had views over the bay and Corfu. Some of the fittings in the bathroom needed repairing. Breakfast wasn't very good the omelettes and eggs seemed to have been cooked the night before and heated up but at 30 euros per night for one person it was great value and we stayed two nights. There is a large parking area at the back of the hotel which was useful. The room looked out onto other restaurants and bars and once or twice they started playing loud music. We wondered if we would be disturbed at night but everywhere was quiet by 20.00hrs.

We walked along the seafront to the Limani Restaurant to eat both nights, we had good fish and octopus there.

Built in Sarandë "Grand Hotel Saranda", comes to you with a new image, entirely redesigned in 2011, which offers even other environments such as a new bar in the terrace with an amazing view of the town, where you may enjoy the fantastic landscape it offers and the marvelous sunsets, especially during summer; and a new restaurant in the veranda, which is almost above the sea.
Now reconstructed and furnished with modern furniture, the rooms are very comfortable and are equipped with all the necessary facilities.

We hadn't really set out our plan for Albania so had only booked a hotel for our first night (Hotel Briliant). After a night in Dhermi (which was totally deserted in September, like a ghost town), we ended up back in Sarande, hoping to check into Briliant. Typically, it was full, so over the road we went to the Grand Hotel where we got a sea view room for around 50 euro for the night. The room was nice enough, a little worn in places and certainly not as nice as what we had in Briliant for the same price. However, it was clean and did offer a lovely view over the bay.

Being out of season the hotel was quite quiet so we had the pool area to ourselves. There are also private bathing areas to the beach - we stayed here a while, but there were a few rowdy families with uncontrolled children that made us move on quickly!

Wifi was available in the reception and bar areas. We had a drink in the bar area that night and it was nice and peaceful - again being out of season - the bar staff looked a bit bored when it was so quiet! Lovely view from the bar - again looking over the bay.

Breakfast was okay - enough to line the stomach for the day ahead - cereal, bread, eggs etc.

I'm sure my review of this hotel would have been a lot more positive if we had not stayed in the Briliant before - we really were spoilt there. The beachfront location and having a swimming pool are definite bonus points for the Grand Hotel over Briliant. I would recommend this hotel, but my first choice would be Briliant - perhaps Grand Hotel would be better for families though.

Room Tip: Definatley get a sea view or you are looking out to the road if you get a room on the back!

Rooms with sea view are clean and are available for 50€ (price may differ in the main season) per night. Spartanic furniture in typical balkan style (TV not functioning, old closets, old carpets, ect). Pool is available as well as a very small concrete entrance to the sea. Staff is helpfull and speaks English/Italian. restaurant is also quite ok but don`t expect haute cousine (our sea food plate was ok). Be aware, that some rooms are located directly over the Terrace Cafe.

First off, that photo is not a picture of the hotel!!! The hotel is not bad, just way overpriced for what it delivers. My room was small, but clean. Room had A/C and a fridge, no TV. The best part of the room was the bathroom, which had a nice enclosed shower with hot water. However, they advertise free wi fi - WARNING - no wi fi in the rooms! So if you want that, don't stay here. You have to go to the bar downstairs and use your laptop there - the wi fi signal was fine at the bar. The hotel location is good - right by the water. But it has very little beachfront space - so you will feel very crowded and while Saranda does not really have sand, this hotel has a concrete drop off into the water. Beach chairs and umbrellas are provided - but the hotel does not offer its guests beach towels and prohibits use of the room towels at the beach!!! For a supposed 4 star hotel, that is ridiculous. The pool is small, and was filled with LOTS of little kids the entire time, every day. Breakfast was pretty paltry for the price of the hotel - cereal, yoghurt, sausages, bread, jam, fruit. Staff were helpful.

Very beautiful and great views from the balcony of the sea and night life, very clean and got everything we wanted. But would not recommend as a family holiday great for just the two of you.
