“Lovely, comfortable, charming stay at the Blue Door Inn”
Reviewed 29 October 2013

Kathie was a gracious hostess. The Blue Door Inn is well appointed and is exceptionally comfortable. The bed was excellent and the room very nicely furnished, warm and inviting.
Breakfast was delivered outside the door in the morning and was quite pleasant - muffins, yogurt, fruit, juice, coffee and tea.
HIghly recommended!

  • Liked — The charm, comfort and cleanliness.
  • Disliked — Our room was the one closest to the street and railroad tracks - if thats a bother for you, be sure to ask Kathie for a room further back in the building.

We rented the entire Inn to house our extended family when our daughter got married this past weekend. The Inn is a delightful mix of old and very up to date lighting, plumbing, kitchen areas, etc. We explored the shops in Alma, Fountain City, and ate a delicious dinner at Blue Harbor Inn at Pepin.

My husband and some friends of ours stayed at the Blue Door Inn on Oct. 11 and 12, 2013. The suites were spacious and nicely decorated. The beds were comfy. We had use of the "common area" between our rooms and each morning our continental breakfast was waiting for us to enjoy on the awesome porch overlooking the river. The hospitality of the owner, Kathy went beyond what you would get somewhere else. She even brought us ice for our cooler. The quaint town with its amazing buildings and history was really fun to see and Kathy was very knowledgeable about the area. We built some great memories and would definately stay there again.

Room Tip: We stayed in Suite 3 which overlooks main street. We didn't mind hearing trains go by at all...

We stayed at the Blue Door Inn during our women's wine tasting trip this last weekend. We had a wonderful time in Alma. The area around Alma is beautiful, especially in the fall. Kathy, owner of the Blue Door Inn, was a wonderful hostess and gave us lots of history on the house and the town of Alma. She was very knowledgeable and friendly. The Inn itself is absolutely wonderful! If you are in the area you need to stay there!

My boyfriend and I stayed in the upper apartment for our one year anniversary. The owner was so nice and gave us a $20/night discount. When we got there, she had a bottle of wine from the local vineyard waiting for us, as well as a gorgous bouquet of flowers from the flower shop in town. Breakfast was at our door both mornings when we woke up. The room was very tastefully decorated and kept very clean.

We recently stayed at the Blue Door Inn as part of our trip along the Great River Road through Wisconsin. Our room was spacious and very clean and we were provided with plenty of information on the surrounding area including restaurants with the best views. I had asked for a bottle of wine from the local vineyard to help us celebrate our anniversary and it was waiting for us when we arrived. The breakfast was also great, with a fresh pastry from a local bakery.

Room Tip: Suite three is on the second floor closest to river with a nice view from the patio to enjoy food an...

This is the second year we stayed at the Blue Door Inn for an annual vintage car event. This year, the entire inn was populated with members from our group. Everyone loved their stay and plans are being made to rent the whole house for next year! We spent our days driving in the Wisconsin countryside and our evenings at the inn with Kathy Goodman, the innkeeper. She's an excellent storyteller, regaling us with historical and current insights of Alma and the area. She introduced us to a variety of wine and delicious cheese from the region. The rooms were beautifully appointed, fresh and immaculate. The garden was still in bloom despite the cool evenings. Saturday night around the firepit drinking wine and Spotted Cow was wonderfully relaxing. We feel like this is our little secret inn, but everyone should discover it and experience the hospitality offered by Ms Goodman and her Blue Door Inn!
