“Stay in Manaus Before Cruising Amazon”
Reviewed 19 January 2013

If you are looking for a place to stay to get the real feel of Manaus and the people, try this hotel. It is more of a B & B, located in the neighborhoods of the city. It seems to be an old manion made into a hotel. 8 of us spent just one night but would have stayed longer. It is very quaint with original hardwood floors but renovated bathrooms and rooms. It is not the Marriott..it is a hotel with local flavor. The cost was only $77 for the night. Each room has airconditioning, a TV and refrig. The Bathrooms are newly redone with nice showers, etc. It is especially safe and squeeky clean. A free breakfast of local foods is provided on the patio and the manager, Viviane speaks English. Via email she ordered a pick up for us from the airport as well as a tour guide and driver for the next day. She couldn't have been more helpful. The only negative is that there is no elevator and our bags for our cruise were large and heavy. If you are looking to learn how the locals live, this is the place. Unbelievable value, especially since some of fellow passengers stayed at the Holiday Inn, paid $200 for much less, and never got the "feel" we did of the community

Room Tip: Email them with your questions. Viviane answers immediately.

After reading the earlier reviews I was not expecting anything else than a basic accomodation. And that is precisely what you get. The unbelievable friendliness of the staff, however, more than makes up for that. We spent 2 nights before the jungle trip and 1 night after the trip: it was like coming home. Really tall people should be aware as the beds may be too short.

Stayed here while on vacation. Our room was clean and comfortable, the facility was very nice, the breakfasts were delicious. Probably the best part of staying here was the staff. They were helpful and very accommodating. It's is an easy cab ride to and from the airport. And while you can't walk to the downtown attractions, if you don't mind a little adventure, the hotel is in walking distance to bus lines that take you down to the central city. Overall, a terrific stay.

This is seriously an amazing place to stay. Ok, its not close to the center of Manaus, but if your going there to chill, and possibly join an Amzon Forrest expedition, why do you need to be close to the center (noisy and polluted anyway).

The people working there are fantastic. They blew me away.. U are definitely treated like a 'King' as the name of the hotel indicates in french: 'At the Kings''
Food served is fresh ans sooo yummy, and local.
24 hrs reception.
Anything you need, shops close, relatively safe area (had no problem at all walking alone at night), high security in the Hotel too.

Go for it & enjoy it!

Room Tip: dont get room Nbr 10, thats all ;) dangerous bathroom doorstep (invisible, high, sharp ) & bed s...

My daughter and I stayed one night at Chez les Rois. We arrived after midnight and the staff were extremely friendly and made sure everything was perfect for us. The breakfast was fantastic with just the right mix of something new and typical and food we were familiar with. The fresh squeezed juice was amazing. The building itself is beautiful and it is great to sit back and enjoy the history in the building. The staff were at all times attentive and helpful. We wish we could have made use of the pool as it looked very inviting! Would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend for families.

A friend and I stayed at this B & B for two weeks in September. The service was excellent and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. (Viviane even phoned a taxi company and got me a refund when we were overcharged one evening as well as spent a great deal of time on the telephone sorting out a lost booking of mine for another resort. As well she arranged a city tour.) The breakfasts were great -- fresh fruit and juice, meat, cheese, pancakes and bread. The pool was clean -- a wonderful place to cool off in hot and humid Manaus.

The B & B is conveniently located a block away from a street which has half a dozen excellent restaurants.

The rooms are spartan but very clean with excellent air conditioning. Most of the staff speak limited English (but do understand it) however, they work hard at solving your problems and meeting your needs so the fact I didn't speak Portuguese was not a problem. An added bonus Chez Les Rois will store your luggage for you if you are going on an Amazon excursion.

We had a two day, two night layover before our river trip and found Chez les Rois a very nice place to stay. The staff was very helpful and I believe it was George who spoke fluent English (and several other languages) helped us get settled in, since our Portuguese was very lacking. He got us a cab to visit a nearby air-conditioned super mall which we enjoyed. He also stayed at the hotel all night and waited until we were up the next morning to get our breakfast ready for us. What a trooper! And as Don Wright stated in his review, Chez les Rois also stored our luggage for our Tucano 6-day river trip followed by a afternoon stay to shower before our late night flight. The food was great, the beds were fine for us (a little hard for me) and the rooms clean. The showers were great. We enjoyed reading in the lobby as well. We did not use the pool but it did look inviting. This isn't the fancy high rise hotel but it is a nice out of the way place to just hang around at a good price.

Room Tip: We had the 2-bed room for 3 people over the lobby which was quiet since the guests there are conside...
