Oh my goodness. this was amazing I went two nights on the trot! Such an unusual taste of sweet and sour with a big dollop of manioc starch, which is a gluey egg white, ladeled in and stirred about with a pokey stick as you fish for prawns. Add the tiacuipy sauce for extra amazonian kick

I had read about Tacaca, the soup from the Amazon that uses a plant/veggie which numbs your mouth and decided to try it out since it was our first time there. Situated in the main square where the Theatre is and served from a booth made it easy to find and get to.
The soup is simply amazing, very flavourful, has shrimps and the veggies are awesome. When we left and went to Rio, we were craving this soup and found a restaurant serving tacaca... Good but doesn't compare to Tacaca da Gisela in Manaus. Needless to say we were sad we weren't able to get more.

Don't miss this opportunity to try this wonderful soup you'll only get in Manaus! Try it out!

Yummmm drooling thinking of it!

Take it from a local: this place waters down the tucupi, and constantly gives small portion sizes in the tacaca, which as of Jan/2013 costs $13 reais for a "large" tacaca. This place has a nice atmosphere, but the tacaca is lacking, and you are paying extra for the location next to Teatro Amazonas. Try "Point do Tacaca" a street food vendor with her entire family on the corner of Ramos Ferreira St. and Torquato Tapajos St. Which is 2 blocks from the Teatro Amazonas. She is the real queen of the Tacaca is Manaus, and you'll notice that by how busy she gets. The tacaca is the winner, but she opens at lunch also w some delicious choices for $6 reais, and a $10 large tacaca that will put "tacaca da gisela" to shame anyday. Point do tacaca closes at 7pm or earlier on days she runs out of food earlier...

We decided to try this regional soup joint (Tacaca is the name of the soup) after a visit to the Municipal Theatre and found it very tasty, they add a herb in the end which makes your tongue tickle, even my daughter tried it! it tastes a bit like a bitter kale, the manioc broth and the dried shrimp were delicious and plentiful! We tried the brazil nut chocolate truffle for something sweet afterwards and I wish I had brought some home with me, yummmmy!
