“Run-down place”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 August 2012

The Hotel is o.k. for one night, but I wouldn't want to stay longer. The rooms are very old and smelly and haven't been renovated in a long time. Breakfast is very good though. Location is in a safe and convenient area.

To start with this hotel was booked through our tour guide in the Amazon and was merely used as a place to crash before an Amazon Tour.

We arrived at 1 am and the hotel was dead as was this part of town.
The room was very dirty and we weren't sure if the linen had been changed prior to our use. There was no soap and we had trouble getting the hot water to work in the shower.
The bed had dodgy springs and am quite sure there were bedbugs already living on it.
Further annoyances were the telephone call at 3am! I answered and someone spoke Brazilian so I hung up only to be bothered again twice!
Someone also decided to try our door, which was fortunately locked.

Breakfast was not nice.

Don't stay here.

We were actually booked into this place through a tour provider and made the mistake of not checking reviews even though some seem to be ok - looking at them now.
We arrived at 2am and the area already looked dodgy. Our first impression should get confirmed. The room we were led to already had tenants. At least two roaches were not very happy to have new guests entering, so we left the light on to not make them claim back their territory unseen.
The AC was switched on when we entered the room, so the bedsheets were not only dirty but also humid and even if we wanted to, no blankets were available and the AC got very cold later.
A look at the AC however made us switch it off as it apparently had never been cleaned since the hotel was built.
We also had to avoid the shower, which was especially nice after about 7 hours flight, as the electric installation above did not seem very trustworthy. On top of that there were not even towels..
The sunrise happened only on the watch as all windows were taped completely.
So we spent the night sitting on the side of the bed watching animals and chatting about nice hotels we could have booked.. and the tour to come.
After that sleepless night experience we did not have much appetite for a breakfast that might have been ok for a hostel - including a sticky table.
Yes, it is a one star place but does it really have to be that shabby?
Good advice: avoid this place, pay a little more and have a fresh start into the morning..

As another reviewer pointed out, does the job. Rooms are pretty modest but the showers are hot and there is a fridge and AC in the rooms that seem to work. Lots of TV stations though not sure there were any in English.

WiFi in the lobby/common room on the first floor is pretty quick but not accessible from the rooms.

Best thing is a very large free breakfast spread in what the rest of the day is a self-service restaurant where you pay by weight. Best breakfast offering of my all the hotels on my month long Brazil trip. Reception personnel seem very nice and helpful.

Walking distance to many tourist sites, stores (carrefour for groceries) and restaurants.

My brother and I were travelling to the jungle and only stayed at this hotel for 1 night for a stopover. The hotel did the job for us but if we were staying in Manuas for longer i don't think we would go back. The breakfast was a very strange one to say the least. I have had food from all over the world and I know there are people that complain about everything, but the food was edible but mostly strange tasting. The AC wouldn't plug in and there was a duvet stuck down the side of it as it was fitted wrongly.
The lifts to the room were interesting as we could see outside through the gaps in the floor and walls.
The staff were very polite and nice and there was nothing bad to say about them.
As we got there late at night and left early we couldn't tell anything about the area or location.
I wouldn't say it would be the greatest or safest place for kids as there were lights hanging out, balcony doors that we could easily push open and dangerous bits of masonry around

Room Tip: cross your fingers, pray and you will be fine
