We stayed here for five nights during a trip to Manaus for the World Cup. After searching one dumpy hostel after another that didn't have any vacancies, we were shocked to get a clean, well-appointed room, right off the main plaza, where all the action was. Air conditioner worked, as well as TV and fridge. Room was completely cleaned daily if desired. There were some ants on the bed when were arrived, but I brushed them off and they never bothered us again. We made sure to keep any food in the fridge so as not to entice any critters. (It is the middle of the Amazon after all..). I always felt safe, though we didn't keep many valuables in our room.
Breakfast was simple, but more than adequate, with eggs, cheese, ham, baked breaks and fresh fruit daily. Staff were consistently very friendly and helpful, including calling to get a bus reservation for a day trip out of town. The hotel is twisty and turny, and I can see how some rooms might be rather damp and dark. We were lucky to get a room on the top floor, which basically opened up to a large terrace across the landing. We were also at least a couple of rooms back from the street, so the parties at night didn't bother us.
We'd highly recommend this place.

Room Tip: Choose a room on a top floor and away from the street, which was party central during our entire sta...

dirty room with ants and roaches. noisey a/c and a random light that flashes every 10 minutes at night. great location but poor quality. avoid the tour companies lurking in the foyernear sebastion square and restaurants are the good things about this place

Stayed for one night before an Amazon tour, was only there for 8 hours but it was long enough.
We had a 'superior room' which has hot water, a fridge and is apparently a nicer room - I dread to think what a basic room would have been like.

Gaps in the door were taped up, air con was barely a fan, walls were marked and floors were dirty. Breakfast was the poorest offering I've ever experienced. Was supposed to spend a night here post Amazon trip but opted for Boutique hotel across the street - worlds apart!

My wife and I visited the Amazon and stayed here on the first night of our arrival. The hotel is in a pretty good location but don't expect much in terms of conveniences. The room was maybe 9 feet by 9 feet and just big enough for a bed. The shower only had cold water and no soap or shampoo was provided. This would have been okay had we known ahead of time so we could have packed it. There was a small television but only one plug in for the room so don't plan to recharge your cell phones, camera batteries and watch TV at the same time. The breakfast was provided for us and it was ok but not exceptional. The hotel is in a good location to walk to local attractions.

I thought this place was alright. I thought it was safe and clean. I am not really sure what the negative reviews are all about. I would stay here again. It is a good value and a GREAT location. It is really close to the Teatro Amazonas (the opera house).

We spent a night at this hotel after returning from an Amazon tour at a place where there was no water. Not just hot water, any water. So we loved it here. We took showers, turned on TV and spread out on real beds. The hotel is by no means luxurious and there are no English speaking clerks. But the place is wonderfully located near the Opera House and good restaurants and we didn't see any roaches. It's a cheap, decent, convenient hotel.

This hotel is one of the worst ever. Considering what you get for the $R 90,- we paid it is not cheap either. Highly recommend people to look elsewhere for better accomodation. When we arrived we got a room without window. There was a group of drunk men drinking beer and shouting songs in front of our door. Luckily it started raining and they left. However the electricity in the room kept failing, so we asked for another room. Which we got after putting some pressure on the staff. This room was marginally better and cleaner. The beds are hard as a rock, wich is no suprise as the matras (very thin) is placed directly on stones. The breakfast was the worst ever. It looked so bad that I preferred not to eat or drink anything. 1 benefit: it is close to the main square with the theather
