Very nice place, nice location, very friendly and helpful staff (but some are hard to communicate with in portuguese). Safe to move around in the area, even at night. Breakfast was the best of all the pousadas we did in Brasil, missed it all through the rest of the trip....

One point that could be better, bathroom in the room could have been a little cleaner, especially the showerhead (and I don't mean the wiring, that is shabby all through Brasil...)

We came to Salvador to visit a friend, and booked several rooms at Papaya Verde upon his suggestion - we're so thankful that he discovered this little slice of paradise! Quaint little B&B with charming colors and decorations. The rooms are small, bathrooms even smaller... but who needs much time in the room when there's so much to see & do in Salvador?! Staff was friendly and helpful with our every request. Breakfast is certainly one of the highlights, as everything is freshly picked, squeezed or baked! We left Salvador for Boipeba... but then returned to Papaya Verde for one last night before heading to Rio. Would definitely recommend staying here. Great value for the price.

We arrived late on a wet night to be met by a warm welcome. This pousada is a friendly unpretentious place in Barra neighbourhood. Breakfast is legendary and with reason as the cook outdoes everyone else with lots of freshly baked cakes and wonderful fresh fruit. Good coffee and a selection of teas as well as cheeses and ham are on offer too. Marco, one of the owners, was very helpful and friendly. Our room was clean and quiet. If you want a luxury hotel go elsewhere, this is a place with real hospitality and excellent staff for real travellers. Lots of Brazilians as well as Germans were there during our short stay. Highly recommended.

Papaya Verde is a great little inn, close to the ocean and nice restaurants in Barra. As previous reviewers already stated, the place is a gem. The rooms are simple, but very clean and comfortable, the breakfast is really good and the staff is very courteous and helpful. I recommend this pousada to anyone that is looking for a good and affordable place to stay in a safe neighborhood in Salvador.

This place is a gem. Nestled in a great spot a little street just near the ocean in the bohemian Barra district, this place is also great spot in and of itself.

First of all it's adorably done with comfortable beds, clean rooms, nice little baths, (even good views from the upper rooms) and a lovely courtyard with great landscaping and fabulous open breakfast area with a very healthy, delicious included buffet breakfast and some seriously potent coffee. Yum!

Second, the staff, every single one of them, is friendly, smiley and helpful. The housekeeping staff was very thorough. They were very attentive at the front desk. Everyone seemed courteous and happy.

Third, it really is a great location. Barra district feels much friendlier than Pelehourino, Baixa or Alta. The beaches are lovely for surfing, sunning, drinking or people watching. The restaurants in the area are great. I felt very safe and chilled out.

This place is a bargain and a model of how an inexpensive joint should designed and managed.

Room Tip: The upstairs rooms are the best, with nice views and breezy balconies.

I really loved this pousada and the staff is just wonderful. It is owned by a dutch and a german who has worked in the bigger hotel chains around the world. The place shows their experience, as the staff is well trained, breakfast is huge and of great quality.
Though it aint a five star hotel, more like a cozy, clean Bed and Breakfast.Where you the client is in the center of attention and treated as an old friend.
Rooms are spacious, cleaned daily and well maintained. The rate beats the most hotels and pousadas in Salvador. While this cost 120 reais/night, other was offering 165 reais/night during january.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Pousada Papaya Verde.
The Pousada is located in a quite side street, only 5 min walking from the beach. Already from outside you will note how much detail and care the owners put into the Pousada: it is surrounded by a wonderful garden with palm trees and beautiful flowers. It makes you feels like coming to an oasis of calm, something you will really appreciate after a day exploring the crowded, noisy and rather dirty streets of Salvador. My room offered a bathroom, air-conditioning, a fridge and a ceiling vent. Like the room itself, linens and towels were fresh and clean and the bed very comfortable. The breakfast made a great start into the day: a large buffet including home baked cakes, fresh fruit juices and great coffee. The staff was very nice and helpful and the owners speak fluently Portuguese, English, Dutch, French, Spanish and German which is of great help for everyone who like me do not speak any Portugese.
So all in all I cannot imagine that there is any better value for money if you are looking for a place to stay in Salvador.
