Take the bus to get there as cabs can be a bit pricey. Lovely spot for photos and great views of the city. Also close to Farol da Barra - make sure to check out both.

This church is the symbol of Salvador, the capital city of the State of Bahia. So it is a "must-see" if you are around there.
It's a nice church in colonial style, the peculiar thing is the gate outside, that is covered with coloured fitas, the tissue strips that you will get everywhere in Salvador, that people attach on the gat of the church, making 3 wishes.

This church is well worth seeing for the insight it gives into the history of religion in Brazil. There are two interesting wall paintings just inside the door. The "room of thanks", where people have left casts of body parts associated with apparently miraculous cures, is just weird and, in my view, in very poor taste.

Well, having been there as a child I somehow had higher expectations. It's quite far from the centre and a part from the Church there's nothing else to see round the area. The "thanks room" seems to be smaller than in the past. Again, maybe just an impression. I was expecting more "bahianas" dressed in typical white costumes selling acarajé, tapioca etc, some place to have a coffee or "agua de coco". There was nothing. Our visit lasted 15mins. I much preferred the churches in the Pelourinho.

The place of devotion from many in Salvador, go on Friday and wear white clothes , It is safe , don't worry about the street sealers.
