Stayed here for a week during the World cup and couldn't fault it in any way. Reception staff were fantastic, polite, spoke great english and couldn't do enough for you. Rooms were perfectly clean tidy and functional with great air conditioning and good sized safes. Food was good and certainly plenty of it. Although this is more a business rather than vacation hotel we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. There is a relatively new shopping mall approx. 400m away which offers anything at all you might need while away. Nice swimming pool and well equipped gym both of which seemed very under used. Popular tourist areas were about 20 mins by taxi and good value for money. Traffic in Salvador is entertainment in itself but it works.

Room Tip: Higher rooms will have less traffic noise and marginally better views

We stayed at this hotel for couple of days and was so impressed we came back the 2nd time to stay within a month. There are no real negatives on this hotel and handful of positives: new and modern building, friendly English speaking front desk staff, spacious and well-designed rooms, great pool, adequate exercise room, spa, etc,.I could go on. Danielle at the Front Desk solved all our problems and answered every question, Thanks for being so patient with us. The hotel is just next to Salvador Shopping mall, one of the biggest ones in Brazil and perhaps in S. America. We stayed at this hotel and took a cab to good beaches in Itapoa, Flamengo, and even to Barra. It costs a little more than a few $R but worth visiting different beaches. The area seems safe and had everything we needed within a walking distance. Breakfast was included with the room and was adequate for us. The only improvement to suggest is to have dim lights in the hallways, at a minimum. The hotel is using those new energy saving lights that makes the hallways pitch black if not used. Also when we needed anything, the hotel staff was quite responsive and fast even though we stayed there during the World Cup when it was completely sold out. We'll be back to stay at this hotel next time in Salvador.

Was there during World Cup. As Mercure is a global hotel chain and the hotel was an "official FIFAworld cup hotel" we expected a good standardized service level. Unfortunately, most of service staff didn't speak a word English - some of them not even "one, two, three". Therefore communication was difficult and led to some misunderstandings. Staff at reception speaks English, nevertheless check in took almost 30 minutes.

Rooms are big and clean but not very warm due to white tiles on the floor and very simple balcony.
Food is ok. Breakfast and lunch are srved as buffet with good offer, mix of international and local food.

Wifi was free but very slow.

For safety reasons all guests had to wear bracelets during the whole stay.

Location: 20-30min by taxi from historic city center, depending on traffic. Some restaurants around, but nothing really good.

All in all ok, but nothing special.

Very, very nice hotel, top quality. Only problem is location/city itself. Hotel rooms clean and big. It is located outside the main parts of the city. About 40 Reals cab drive to Rio Vermelho or Pelourinho which are the main tourist attractions/nightlife. This wouldn't be a problem except the hotel is located by a disgusting river/sewage line. The outside area has a distinct smell to it which was not a big deal once in the hotel. However it rained a little one afternoon when we were inside and the smell was unbearable. I guess the sewage rises or something in the river with the rain but it was disgusting and we could smell it in our room. Not much the hotel can do about this but its unfortunate because of how nice it is. Area is safe but would probably stay elsewhere to be closer to the nightlife and away from that river.

Stayed for one night only. The room is ok. The breakfast was a big problem. I love coconut water! When I arrived for breakfast it had finished. We asked for it to the waiter . But till the end of my time (I had to leave for the airport), it didn't arrived....

I go regularly to Salvador and end up staying at different hotels everytime. The reason being, I have yet to find a hotel in Salvador which fulfills all my requirements.

I stayed here for 2 nights and I was not totally satisfied. However, it was much better than many other hotels I have stayed in Salvador.

My actual rating of this hotel is 3.5/5.

Positives :

1. Nice friendly front desk. Very polite and speaking fluent English. Very helpful.
2. The room ( superior on 17th floor) looked bright and had a very nice view of the city.
3. While taking shower, the hot water was available and at good flow
4. Breakfast was not free . 30 Real charge but was adequate.
5. Excellent location . Very close to a mall which contained 100's of restaurants. The location was one of the safest I have seen in the whole of Salvador. You could walk on the street here in day or night without a problem.
6. The bar in the room, was well stocked but not cheap.
7. The airconditioner worked very well , noise free and easily controllable by remote.
8. The room had a balcony too to sit ouside and watch the view with a beer.
9. Nice gym and swimming pool. The gym was well equipped. Swimming pool was open air.
10. The room was noise free.

Negatives

1. The internet was very slow. Though it never dropped after the first log in . However, it was impossible to make a skype call or have a video conference with the speed available. It was even not possible to talk using a app such as "Viber". Their was no option to pay for and get a better bandwidth. I was provided with a new password but bandwidth remained the same. For this reason alone, I may never return here to this hotel. Managers, reading my review - please supply high speed internet and charge for it. No problems but have it available please.

2. The room construction, the bathroom, the alleyway was made of super cheap materials. All tiles. In the bathroom, the tap came in my hand 2-3 times! Super super cheap construction.

3. The room service was poor. No one ever answers the phone and even if you approach the front desk. After food is eaten, I had to call them 5 times before they came 5 hours later to remove my plate. Shame on you Mercure Room service manager!

4. The number of elevators for 17th floor and above was just one and was not adequate with a large waiting time.

5. The inhouse menu of the restaurant in the hotel was very depressing. No Bahian flavors and really horrible menu. Never tried it.

Room Tip: Take a superior room and go on a high floor.

We just returned from Salvador where we stayed 9 days at the Mercure Salvador Boulevard. We were there to work on closing a deal on a new property; so our stay was 1/2 vacation and 1/2 legal work for the new place. After a long trip from Washington DC, we arrived at the hotel at 3PM. We were warmly greeted and Daniel was awesome at making us feel welcome. The check in process took a little longer than a typical check in... but overall ... it was fine. We made the request for some assistance on getting around town for our 9 days and he was able to help get everything organized for us. In addition - we arrived during the recent Police Strike in Bahia and the hotel did a great job at making us feel safe, whilst the rest of the city was pretty much in lockdown. We were calmly informed that it might make sense to stay indoors for the first day. A few hours later, the strike was over and we felt safe enough to go outside the following day. I'm still trying to understand how it is even possible to have police go on strike!

The hotel is within a 5-10 minute to walk to Salvador Shopping complex. This place has 400+ shops and an amazing dining area that serves pretty much everything. If you are staying at the hotel, you have to go to the shopping area. You won't regret that visit Salvador Shopping.

During our stay, the main restaurant was undergoing renovations so we did not use the restaurant. But - we did eat at the breakfast service on all 9 days. It is in a different location then the restaurant and the service was great and the food was a above average breakfast buffet. The team working there was very nice and the only day it was a little "off" was on Easter Sunday. The team leader that day was obviously wanting to be anywhere but there - but who could blame him on the big holiday.

We also used the pool and spa area and both were fantastic. The pool is up on the 5th floor or so and had great sun. It is a little noisy since you are in the city - but it was fine for us and we used it on many days.

Room Service was also used on our first night and another night when we were dead tired from the day. The only bad part of our trip was that room service was pretty poor. I hate to say anything bad about the hotel and I only hope that the hotel works to improve the service. On both times using the service, we had to use the front desk to place the order. Even then the order was incorrect on both times. We pretty much ate whatever they brought us and it is the only thing needing improvement. One order was just 2 cheeseburgers and 2 waters. We got one burger, no waters and had to wait another 30 minutes for the second one to come with the drinks. If room service would have been even average, my overall rating would be a 5 for the total experience.

Regarding the room itself - it was spacious and had a huge balcony with views of the ocean and the city. We were on the 19th floor and can only imagine how great the views are from the top floors. The room was huge and had a nice work place for us to lay out all our business paperwork and computers to work. It also had a comfortable bed, bedding and super clean bathroom. Seriously - the cleaning staff kept our place spotless. The bathroom only had a shower, which is fine for us and had great water pressure.

Internet worked 100% of the time and worked great on all our devices. We even were able to access and watch Netflix on both computer and iPad. We were totally not expecting to have good internet access on our trip.

We definitely would recommend staying here on a trip to Salvador.

Room Tip: Include Breakfast in your reservation. It is worth the additional cost
