“Best gourmet space in a hotel”
Reviewed 27 July 2014 via mobile

Independently of being or not a guest at the Sheraton, its gourmet space and layout is a great introduction to the excellent dishes served. I've been there four times: always very tasty and visually attractive. Check it out!
My friends from American Society International have also endorsed it.

We stayed at this hotel during the world Cup. We initially checked into a different hotel but then decided to check out early and find a better place.
This is excellent value. It was comfortable, nicely located, very friendly staff and great service.
I highly recommend it!!

Just returned from 5 nights at the Sheraton. I was quite excited before getting there but was left extremely disappointed overall. Upon check in, I was upgraded to a 'club room' (SPG Gold). The lobby was nice and modern and check in was fast, so the start was as good as it got.

The room was modern but tiny, no difference with the standard rooms, the bathroom floor had 5-6 short hairs (yes). The bed was unbelievably uncomfortable with and the AC hardly worked throughout our stay. The biggest shock was the 'Club' Lounge, one large bedroom was turned into a so called 'lounge'. Very poor continental breakfast and evening snacks and no alcoholic beverages. The normal rate for the club room was about 180 usd more than the standard room per night which makes me wonder how the people who actually paid that much more must have felt!

the service was so so ... about 5 people in the whole hotel spoke english. Not a single person in the restaurant spoke a word. At the bar I ordered a drink, the lady sent over her english speaking colleague who told me: 'Please stop speaking like a Cheetah cause she won't understand and she will wonder what you've asked for (using profanity!) . Another evening, we were drinking by the pool and towards the end of the night, the waiter, with very broken english came over and said that his shift was over and asked for his tip!

The breakfast was not too bad but since the hotel was really busy the breakfast room was more of a war zone than a restaurant! (not blaming that on the hotel). We had lunch one day which was very average too.

The internet was worse than my dial up connection of 20 years ago. Every time I complained, they said it's because the hotel is full, they blamed all the problems on their occupancy, but as a supposed '5' star hotel, shouldn't they be prepared to serve a full house?!

The location is not good either. It's close by cab to everything but it's on a very dodgy/scary street (especially at night). Salvador overall felt like the least safe city that I visited in Brazil on my 20 days trip.

The only positive about this hotel was the spa and in particular the amazing therapist Emanuella whom gave me one of the most amazing massages I ever had. If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't even give this hotel a rating of 1. I really hope the management does something to fix all these issues since the hotel looks nice and modern on surface...

On an extremely noisy street and without insulated windows, you will not get a good night's sleep.

The internet is so slow, it's practically useless despite calling twice for service.

Rooms, though recently remodeled, are on the small side.

Very good breakfast.

Extremely expensive and irrational pre-paid policies, having to send copies do your id and credit card in advance. This during World Cup, but still not Sheraton standards.

Dear HeyDude09,

Thank you for sharing your experience at Sheraton da Bahia Hotel Salvador with us.

It is important for us to monitor our performance and know about our guests experiences to improve.

We had a problem during four days with our local internet service provider which resulted in a reduction of our internet to about thirty percent of its normal capacity, thus generating a service far below our normal internet capacity.

The pre-payment policies are common in World Cup period.

We look forward to welcome you once again at Sheraton da Bahia Hotel to have a new experience.

Sincerely,

Firstly, and importantly, this hotel is clean, with good rooms, comfortable beds, good security and a general sense that it is an established hotel.

The surrounding area is tatty, but safe enough, despite suggestions to the contrary. It is a 20 minute walk to the Historic Center and, in daylight at least, is not a problem at all.

The hotel falls down in two or three areas, though.

The bar menu is hopelessly limited and the food is not great when it arrives. Very few staff speak English, so not great for travellers who do not speak Portuguese.

For some reason, the aircon is absolutely freezing in the reception and bar area, to the point where it can be too cold to sit and drink in the bar, which defeats the object somewhat.

Breakfast buffet is excellent, which makes it odd that the rest of the food is so average.

Everything works, though, including the wifi, and in South America, that is not a bad thing.

The Sheraton is clean, rooms are spacious with good quality linens, staff are incredibly helpful and friendly. It has a nice pool and is well located in the center of the city, walking distance to the old town. But it's on a very noisy street. Ask for a room in the back for less noise.

Room Tip: rooms on the back side are a bit quieter
