“Gem in Pelourinho”
Reviewed 4 August 2014

Traveling in Brazil for a month during the FIFA world cup can get pricey, but we decided to splurge and spend a night here, and we were so happy we did.

This is a beautiful boutique hotel in Pelourinho. After staying in many pousadas, it was a delight to arrive at Hotel Casa do Amarelindo. The co-owner personally greeted us and his staff were friendly. The room was very clean and we loved how comfortable the bed was. The decor in the hotel was very thoughtful. The rooftop swimming pool was beautiful and it was a treat for us to watch the sunset there.

The hotel is located in the central of Pelourinho and you are steps away from many shops and restaurants.

We would recommend this hotel to anyone. Sure, it is a bit pricey, but definitely well-worth the price. The bartender makes the best caipirinha we have tried in Brazil - make sure you have one before you go exploring the area.

It is a small hotel with a very nice atmosphere. The staff is friendly and qualified. The rooms are good, with enormous beds. We had diner there which was good. Breakfast is good but you eat what they put on your table. You can have a drink in the small lounge, which has a view of the busy street in the old town, or on the terrace. It's all nicely decorated and well maintained.

We stayed here for 5 nights during the World Cup and it was utterly delightful.
Our standard room (their words!) was of a generous size along with a good size bathroom but it is the quality of the furnishings, the stylish decor and thoughtful touches that really makes the room so comfortable, along with things like the terrific rainfall shower. Then there is the fact that although we were overlooking such a noisy street, the room has triple glazing so that amazingly, despite drumming happening right outside, you can't hear it in your room.
The public areas too are really lovely and there are lots of places to just sit and enjoy your surroundings.
Breakfast is terrific and we lingered for ages each morning enjoying the setting on the patio. Mind you, we knew breakfast was going to be good when we heard there was a 'tart of the day'.
We also had dinner here one evening and the food was excellent, better than anything else we found in Salvador by quite some way.
But it's the staff and the way the hotel is run that really sets this hotel apart. So many thoughtful touches like informing guests of all the music events each day, times, costs etc. Providing maps for all the World Cup guests to show the walk to the stadium, and even escorting guests there. Like making sure, during such a busy time in Salvador, that guests got first refusal on tables for dinner.
Other hoteliers should visit Gilles and Didier to learn how it's done.

Amerlindo was everything we hoped it would be. The location was great as you could walk everywhere around the little town of Salvador. It was charming, the service was excellent and the food was delicious. The breakfast that is included in the morning far exceeded our expectations for quantity and quality including ham, cheese, eggs, fruit plate, yogurt, 2 freshly squozen juices, a pot of coffee and some sort of pecan pie type sweet. Oh and if you want to stay in your room, they will deliver this meal to your room...can't beat breakfast in bed on vacation.

The pool area is small but boosts great views and a quiet and relaxing area. You can ring a bell and a waiter will come up and serve you.

The staff was overly accommodating and the rooms were clean, the beds were big, the balconys large and overall the stay was just as we had hoped. A quaint hotel with lots of charm.

Here's the secret...a lot of people think the pool area is the "rooftop tapas bar" but it's not! There is another actual rooftop bar with panoramic views of the city. Perfect for sunset. We finally discovered this little gem on our last night! Had the whole place to ourselves, enjoyed a Cuban cigar, the waiter brought us up caipirinhas and it was just perfect.

Room Tip: Room 4 had an ocean view and was on the same floor as the pool so it was very convenient. Had a larg...

If you visit Salvador, the old Portuguese colonial capital of Brazil, you should stay here. Beautifully renovated by the owners Gilles and Didier, the hotel opens on to the cobbled streets of the old city and is within easy walking distance of some of the most magnificent historic buildings in the whole of Brazil. The décor throughout is stylish and echoes the Iberian feel of many of the buildings in the vicinity. We were lucky in having a room with a balcony overlooking the water with views of the sunset to die for but the pool terrace offers the same superb vista. The proximity of the football stadium was an added bonus for world cup fans but, even without the extra fervour and bustle that inevitably accompanied the Copa do Mundo, this would be a great place to stay.

Out of many hotels I've been to, this is probably the most wonderful one. The moment I went into the lobby I saw that this is not an ordinary hotel. Right in the middle of Pelourinho, the historical center of Salvador, everything, every little detail in it is unique. My boyfriend and I stayed only for one night, two weeks ago, shtortly after the beginning of the World Cup, the hotel was fully booked for weeks. When I saw our room, I wanted to stay there for the rest of our journey. The room was spacious and very cosy, with a huge bathroom. The hotel stuff was very friendly, the guy from the reception speaks English very well, which isn't very common in Brazil, at least in the cities we went to :-) We met one of the owners and he was very surprised that we came all thay from Bulgaria, even though Bulgarian national team doesn't participate at the World Cup. The swimming pool with the view is amazing. I can honestly say that the breakfast is the best one I have ever eaten in a hotel. Fruits, fresh juices, cake, coffee and tea. Extremely delicious. If we return to Salvador we would deffinetely go back do Casa do Amarelindo. This hotel is one of the reasons our trip to Brazil to be so unforgetable.

This was one of the most luxurious feeling hotels we have stayed in, and we have stayed in many hotels around the world. Everything you could desire is here, a very helpful staff, lovely dining room, pool with a view, lovely lovely roof deck with a bar and superb view, we also had a large private balcony with a view. The bed is the most amazing bed we have ever seen or slept in. I don't know what size you call it, but I called it the "King and Queen" because it seemed as large as both put together. My husband and I are both quite tall, so sometimes we find beds in hotel rooms that aren't quite big enough for us...this bed seemed like the utmost in luxury (and super comfortable, too). The bathroom was spacious with a serious jacuzzi tub, although it was quite hot when we were there so we didn't partake of the jacuzzi. All of these things were enough to recommend this lovely hotel, but the thing that REALLY endeared us was the AMAZING Breakfast in Bed. When we checked in, we were informed that if we wanted breakfast in the room, we coould just call and it would arrive in 10 to 15 minutes. We decided to give it a whirl on the first day. They brought a tray overflowing with all of the things we love, fresh fruit and yogurt, fresh fruit juice, lovely eggs, baked goodies, bread and a carafe of coffee. The only thing missing was a second coffee cup. We were about to ring for a second cup when a knock at the door produced another entire tray of delicious breakfast food....both trays had legs so that you could eat your breakfast comfortably in bed. It was such a perfect selection and we especially like the two huge glasses of fruit juice (orange and another variety which varied from day to day). I put one of my juices in the mini fridge each day and had it to look forward to after walking around in the hot sun. This was such a simply amazing experience that we repeated it for the next two mornings (or our entire stay).

We LOVED Salvador, it is so colorful and alive and we LOVED Casa do Amarelindo. The hotel and location were both absolutely perfect! If we are lucky we will get to go back some day.

Room Tip: We had a room on the first floor above reception with sea view. These rooms have the largest balcon...
