“Stylish and elegant family holidays”

We stayed in one of the villas: EUGENIA last february.
Everything is thought to grant you with a luxuous experience yet not bling.
The villa was perfectly decorated with lots of taste and attention to details, it felt like our home with top class service as a plus in the heart of Trancoso.
The overall settings are very calm and serene.
Breakfast are amazing and the staff will do their best to make your stay simple and nice for any type of activities, sports.
We had a very pleasant and restful stay.
If I have anything to say is that not being right on the beach is a down side as you have to walk 10 min to access the (yet amazing) Uxua beach bar. The way is a bit tricky and "up and down" which can be quite not enjoyable when it is very warm outside.

Room Tip: Each villa is unique in terms of decoration, size, price...

To a New Yorker the travel to Uxua is an extreme travel sport but the effort may make Uxua feel all the more precious. Wilbert's design is inspiring and to be in so much beauty, to be welcomed and helped by the loveliest of staff is well, simply a miracle. Transcoso is such a part of the experience too.
Do take up the staff's suggestions. They know their stuff!

Uxua is simply unbelievable... The design was executed to perfection, and one can tell that the owner is extremely thoughtful in not only the design but also the guest experience as he has hired an unbelievable team. The staff are always two steps ahead. If you are going surfing they will have prepared a beach bag and have it waiting, there are perfect blankets to curl up in next to the outdoor sofas, two different types of bug spray in each room and in public spaces etc etc. Each of the managers made you feel like you were their absolute priority throughout the stay with the perfect balance of attentiveness and care. We have stayed at the most prestigious hotels in the world and Uxua has simply been our greatest experience. The breakfast alone is reason to go! Enjoy!

Uxua strives to be your home away from home and it certainly delivers that and so much more. After a long 90 minute car ride from the Porto Seguro airport, we suddenly enter the town of Trancoso and stop in front of the most modest unpretentious sign that simply says ... UXUA ... and so begins our 7 days of UXUA'ness (wonderfulness). We were greeted by sweet Lilly who walks us through the luscious Uxua grounds filled with enchanted paths weaving through an abundance of tall palms, flowering bougainvillea vines and hibiscuses. She introduces us to Johne, the bartender, who immediately and with meticulous care makes us the most delicious caipirinhas and our long travel day woes quickly disappear.

Soon after Wilbert, the owner and creator of UXUA, emerges from the beach to greet us. Immediately his welcoming personality and friendly charm provides a foreshadowing to just how fantastic our stay is going to be. Lilly takes us to our San Joao casa (the only one with a private pool) where we enter by parting large luscious green plants and are immediately overwhelmed by the beautiful, rustic, earthy textures of our villa. Every detail in the room is a Bahian craftsman treasure from the copper and wooden faucets to the beautiful indigenous hardwood countertops to an indoor shower that allows you to push heavy wooden doors open for the feeling of showing in your own private outdoor garden. Our casa was such the perfect home for us, it was hard to leave and experience the village of Trancoso that we were so cleverly nestled within.

Besides the beautiful paradise Wilbert has created, he has also hired the best staff that only exponentially adds to your Uxua experience. Paula served us breakfast every morning with the warmth and care that would earn her “Best Mom” in any household. She was so accommodating to our every whim. Carlos was our own private concierge who took us to the Taipe beach where we hiked into grand cliffs that lined the beach until we reached a hidden lagoon. Here Carlos scraped thick white-chalky clay from the side of the cliff and like little kids we covered ourselves in the magical mineral-rich mud that Carlos told us soon would make our skin feel like a baby’s butt. Covered from head to toe in mud, we laid in the sun for about 30 minutes sharing stories about our lives and quickly becoming great friends. Exfoliating the white clay from our skin and then jumping back into the ocean, Carlos was right … all our wrinkles disappeared and our skin was truly as soft as a baby’s butt.

On another day, we took a car ride south to Espelho Beach also known as Mirror beach. Here we were dropped off at Silvia Calazans’ colorful mangrove restaurant shack, were we sipped caipirinhas under palm trees and ate Silvia’s homemade fish meal of the day (no menus here for sure.) We spent a fabulous day simply walking around the breathtaking beach with its backdrops of rocky mountain cliffs and absolutely flat deserted beaches. Yet another day in Uxua paradise.

The chefs at Uxua also invited me into their kitchen where they taught me how to make moqueca, the traditional Bahian fish stew. I have made it almost every week since we have returned home. My children are amazed at how I have learned to make fish taste so good to them. The food Uxua serves is amazingly and awe-inspiring delicious. We did feel the need to try some of the local restaurants (Argentina Parilla) but all fell short of the fresh seafood served every day at Uxua. Between Paula, Johne, Carlos, Erika, and Piero bestowing upon you everything you could possibly need or want made leaving the Uxua world of Wilbert tough to leave … and we can’t wait to return.

Room Tip: All the homes are quirky, clever, textured, unpretentious Brazilian Casas. Each is decorated with th...

What a place. The owner (divine Wilbert) has created a little Nirvana in Bahia. The hotel is superbly located on the famous Quadrado and close to the beach (with a private beach bar for Uxua guests of course). The interiors are unique and natural - inspired by the beautiful nature of the area. All the rooms differ and you can have a special experience in all of them. What a treat.
The staff are splendid and cater to every need and the spa is top notch. Make sure to use their gym as it's also excellent with a room for yoga too.
I loved the pool, the food (outstanding!) and the atmosphere. There is nowhere else to stay in Trancoso - this is it!

Room Tip: The tree house is fantastic but the rooms on the quadrado are truly unusual and you can sit on the s...

One of the best and most comfortable and unusual hotels we have been to. Perfectly located on the Quadrado, each of the 9 houses more spacious and beautiful than the next. Ours was a one bedroom home, on the quadrado, called casa Pedrinho. Huge shower, with two heads, kitchenette with all the amenities. Staff great and efficient, specially the concierge Carlos. Breakfast one of the best and most varied the we have ever had. Romantic and homey at the same time.

We spent 6 fantastic days at Uxua. They just flew by.
The hotel is perfectly located, just next to the Quadrato and a short stroll from the beach.
The staff are all extremely friendly, from Carlos the concierge, to Paula who serves the lovely breakfast and Jonny, who enjoyed speaking to us in English and French.
The food at Uxua is fantastic, as good as anything you can find in Paris or New York in our opinion. We tried eating out a couple of times but kept concluding that the best cuisine was in the hotel. Even the Uxua beach café serves great food.
The rooms are all unique and furnished in an eco style with a lot of recycled materials. They are luxurious enough, and beautifully furnished, but could do with a couple more mod cons such as hairdryer.
The common areas of the hotel are really wonderful; a nice bar, restaurant and pool area surrounded by lush vegetation. Being close to the action of the Quadrato, means that there is occasionally some noise from neighbouring houses or bars, but for us, it just added to the experience.
Other activities we really enjoyed, along with relaxing on the really amazing beach were golf at Terravista (stunning views), bike riding on the beach (suggest Uxua invest in a bicycle pump though) and horse riding on the beach.
We found the September climate to be just perfect. Warm days but with a pleasant breeze on the beach, and not uncomfortably hot nights.
Like many things in Brazil these days, the Uxua comes at a price, but it is certainly worth the experience. We will definitely be back.
