“Simple life in charming Trancoso”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 July 2012

First of all, I need to confess that the first 2 days I was really upset to have chosen this place and was really upset and angry with anybody who helped put this pousada so high here in Tripadvisor. It is really simple, the beds and mattresses need a major update, it is really far from the beach (1 km) (I mean, if you go all the way to Trancoso, why would you stay in a place without a view?) in the website they say you can play tennis, but the tennis court is VERY far from the pousada, (around 2km?), 10 minute walk to the charming "quadrado" the little center of Trancoso where you will go every evening anyway, (badly lit and badly paved 10 minute walk) and there are a few pousadas right ON the quadrado.
Also, do not stay here if you expect what you get in other countries for this price. Brazil is expensive, Trancoso is very expensive. Accommodations at Pousada Jacaranda are very simple, like 2 or 3 star hotel in terms of comfort.
So the first couple of days I was not happy with our choice of accommodation and even contemplated leaving early and moving elsewhere. But then the beauty of the simple life that Pousada Jacaranda offers got me. We had the pool to ourselves, we read at least 3 books each of us during the week we were there, we enjoyed our daily walk into "town".
End of story: not only did we stay, but I sincerely hope I'll go back some day. Just to relax and enjoy my simple week from the very first day.

It's not often on my travels that I find a resting place that fits the bill so perfectly as Pousada Jacaranda. Most guesthouses with the levels of style, comfort and facilities available here feel a little exclusive for my tastes, but at Pousada Jacaranda the relaxed and inclusive atmosphere and environmentally-conscious, wonderfully artistic decor make this beautiful place welcoming while still maintaining a high level of service and privacy. As many of the other reviews have noted, this is probably because of the hospitality of Analice and Marco, who in my case went out of their way to make not only my stay but my entire visit work so well for me. And if even a fraction of their plans for the future of their new venture come off, the Pousada will only get more environmentally and socially conscious, more stylish, more comfortable, and more worth a visit. If you're reading this, you have probably already decided that Trancoso is the place for you, so I won't extoll the virtues of the area further- except to say you have made the right decision! Make another good decision and stay at Pousada Jacaranda- it's a rare find!

Room Tip: The deluxe rooms feel like ultimate luxury- room one is the honeymoon suite, which any newlywed woul...

We stayed 2 days at Pousada Jacaranda in Trancoso, and only wish I could have stayed longer. The place is a rustic/relaxed hotel, with an extra touch of class: the presence of the owners, Analice and Marco. They are a young couple, who decided to change the fast pace of the big cities in Brazil and Italy for the qualify of life in Trancoso. They have been doing it for a year, and I truly hope they go on for a long time. Their love for the place and attention to detail make all the difference. As they mature into "owners", I am sure the Pousada will only get better, with their personal touch.

Let's breakdown the pros and cons:
Pros (besides the lovely owners):
1. Location: 5 minutes from the beaches (Coqueiro and Nativos), and five minutes from the Quadrado, where all the "action" is. Note that for a place like Trancoso, "action" means seating on a restaurant, watching a few horses and dogs lazily move around.
2. Setting: The pousada has simple accommodations, but they have everything you would expect (AC, flat TV, good shower, clean rooms, mosquito net, balcony). There are only a few rooms, surrounding a nice garden with a nicer pool.
3. Nice breakfast: again more on the simple side, with no wasteful extravagant things. Local fruits, home-made cakes, eggs, orange-juice, coffee. What more can you ask for?
4. Afternoon tea: I forgot to ask if Analice bakes the cakes herself, but they do taste fresh and home-made. A nice break after a day of beaching, walking, reading, or doing nothing at all.

Cons:
1. The only thing to be aware is that they don't accept cards (yet), so you need to be prepared to either pay cash or transfer the money into their account. No big deal, but remember the offer of ATMs in Trancoso is really restricted. Better load it up at the Porto Seguro Airport.
2. The best rooms are split-level, with the bathroom downstairs and the bedroom upstairs. The stairs would be a problem to negotiate with kids or people with mobility problem. In fact, even a very healthy person could have a problem after a few too many drinks.

The overall experience was great, and as I said, I am ready to go back there as soon as I can. I would suggest that for the peace of mind of some guests, in-room safes would make a difference.

This is not a 5-star hotel (there are none in this area), but a lovely place that gives you a 10-star experience, which is what we should aim for when travelling.

Room Tip: The superior bungalows (the split-level ones) seem to be larger than the others.

Trancoso in and of itself is enough to bring me back, but I wish there were more Pousada Jacarandas to find around the world. Charming, homey, beautiful, comfortable as the place itself is, nothing beats the smiles and hospitality of Analice and Marco (with Stefano singing as he cleans the pool!) to wake up to every day. Breakfast is fantastic (I even made my way home with the lime cake recipe) ~ fruit, fresh juices, freshly baked cakes, granola, toast and meats/cheese ~ and it's sometimes hard to get yourself moving for the day - it's just so nice to be sitting there. They also serve tea at six in the evening, perfect before you get ready to head to town for dinner. The pool is a great place to spend your early morning, or to relax on the hammock after your day. Each "room" is its own little chateau, and they are of all shapes and sizes to accommodate two travels up to a whole extended family. And somehow everyone that stays there is interesting and friendly. I can't say enough about this sweet place. I truly hope to see them there again.

We stayed a Pousada Jacaranda for 4 days during our honeymoon. It was fantastic. Analice, Marco and Stefano (the folks who run the show) really understand customer service and worked hard to ensure that we were well taken care of the entire time.

Before the trip, the team responded quickly to any questions I had about my reservation. They also went above and beyond to provide helpful suggestions for how to get the most out of our trip. Its a good idea to take advantage of their "honeymoon specials" as they really help create some special experiences (massage, horsebackriding, etc.) at a low cost. Analice even rented a car for us!

The facilities are very well maintained. We stayed in a charming 2 story house with a view of the grounds. It had a 2nd floor balcony with a hammock that was great to lounge on. Each morning, breakfast is served in the reception area. Assorted fruits, breads, desserts, juices, and eggs (made to order) are available. The team works hard to take care of all of your needs and the atmosphere is chill. If you need something, just ask.

Far and away, the best aspect of our trip was the customer service we received. Analice, Marco, and Stefano do an outstanding job. This is the place to stay in Trancoso.

if you need to relax and take a break from everyday's life than Pousada Jacarandà is what you're looking for. Enjoy the peace of sleeping on one of the amakas located in your bungalow or near the swimming pool and drinking some coconut juice.
Deliciuos breakfast in the morning with many things to eat and different fresh fruit juices every day. In the evening you can also taste some italian pasta since the guys there are from Italy.
The beach is just 10 minutes walk but you can rent a bike or, better, a car to explore the wild adjacent areas. Trancoso is a very peacefull village and in an hour by car you can also visit other villages like Arrajal D'Ajuda or Porto Seguro.

Room Tip: the apartment if you are a group. otherwise one of the central bungalow, with private terrace and am...

Having stayed in a number of different pousadas in Trancoso prior to my latest trip, I can truthfully now say I will never stay anywhere else again. The location is prime, the rooms are charming and the grounds are openly warm and tranquil, but nothing stands out more than the hospitality you will receive from the owners - Marco, Stefano and Analice. Between wedding activities and kitesurfing I was constantly coming and going, but they were always there to welcome me back with a smile and a chat. Seriously, I would fly half way around the world to stay at this place. É ótimo!
