We stayed in Pousada Bahia Bonita for 12 nights and the overall impression is quite nice.

The rooms are clean, have cable TV with almost 200 channels (?), easy to rest in, the hamacs are cosy, the air conditioning seems new and worked every time. I had no problem with the noise at night, the rooms were very quiet, and the staff is friendly and, when asked, fulfil all your needs ad requests. The beach is very very nice end the beach structure at the Pousada is simply the best in all Trancoso (believe me; if you stroll along the beach you will not see a better one, even in more expensive hotels).

I would strongly recommend it, but... (now the negative points)

One of the first negative points is that we were asked to pay a full 100% payment at arrival; witch for me was a little bit strange and annoying. We did pretended to stay there so why the urgency. They were nice enough to reserve the room without a pre-payment (they only accept American Express in the web site, witch I did not have), but once there they demanded the full 100%. After a conversation at the front desk (witch is really only an office) we decided to pay 6 nights and after that the remaining 6.

At the arrival, was with the security guards. There’s no other staff there if you arrive at night (we arrived at 01h00 AM).

Strangely, but thankfully, as the hotel was almost empty, during our first 6 nights stay we had a room upgrade for an Ocean View. That room was smaller but much nicer than the Garden view ones. We had a huge plasma screen in the room, and a bed with an anti-mosquito net. That was very important has me and my girlfriend were unable to sleep the first 3 night with mosquito flying all around and bites.

Our room was the one called "Lua" (Moon) and I strongly recommend it if you were thinking to stay there.

The Pousada should have a van to drive the guest to the vile (witch is far) even is only just one to go and another to stay. There are taxis but they charge 20 Reais (8,6 USD, 6,8 EUR, 6 GBP) to go and another 20 to come back, witch is really very expensive.

Please be careful in Trancoso. The vila is nice and quiet but we were robbed near the church at the 10th day of our stay, at GUN POINT, at about 10H30 PM. They took some money, a small camera, a necklace and Visa Electron cards. Very very scary!!! The police is practily inexistent and inoperative and, as a tourist, you will have to go to Porto Seguro to present charges, witch is about 90 Km far. They told us that they issued a document to every Inn and Hotel in Trancoso in order to inform the tourists of the risks but they choose not to do so to avoid scarring the tourists. My advice: don't stay at the Vila after 10h00 PM.

As the front desk at the Inn is closed at night we had our room key when we were robbed so we rushed to the Inn . The security guards seemed careless and had no spare keys for the rooms. One of them had to go to Trancoso in a bicycle to get a spare one (I supposed at the house of the manager). They told us they would change the locks but they did not do it in the remaining 2 days of our stay (and I believe they will not do it afterwards). They did reinforce the security the next day.

The staff offered to drive us to Porto Seguro the next day but as the Police told us that there was no point reporting the robbery (as they did not take any document) we choose not to do so. The desk staff said that they were at our disposal for anything that we needed but I would expected a gesture from the management for two guest that were robbed and quite nervous and scared (a fruit basket, anything...) but nothing.

Last, but not least, the front desk told me in the last day that I had to play the cleaners for 3 bed covers that were stained (?!?). After a very strong change of arguments I evidently did not pay the covers, the price asked for the nights should cover it in any hotel. That was surely not what I expected when they said "we are your disposal". I did not saw the covers but the stains were surely small because we did not notice anything during our stay. Even if it was a huge stain, the guests should not pay for it (unless of course it is done on purpose).

Overall it's a nice quiet Inn that needs to improve a lot in order to justify their prices. The staff is friendly; especially Mariza at the front desk witch was very helpful and completely understood our point of view. The beach is wonderful, really wonderful.

Those small, and yet huge, mistakes make me don't want to go back, even if, in Trancoso, I guess for me it was the one that better suited my needs to rest and enjoy the vacations (at least until the robbery).

P.S.: The Trancoso restaurants are very expensive.
P.S. 2: I would put some photos but they were all in the camera that was stolen.

Great boutique beach hotel right on the beach in Trancoso. Very laid back, comfortable and stylish, great rooms, loads of lounging areas with hammocks, beds, lots of cushions. Fantastic staff - very attentive. Excellent food in the restaurant and beach which is better than that found in all the surrounding beach bars and the very expensive restaurants in Trancoso itself.

Could make more of comfortable 'public' areas in the evening, to encourage guests to hang out in hotel rather than going into Trancoso village every night (which is very expensive).

Fabulous place to stay to really chill-out on a beach.

Only drawback while we were there was on last night the neighbouring beach bar (400m away) decided to have a party at 4.30 in the morning, which woke us up, and prevented us fomr getting back to slepp, as we were staying in a beach front room.

The management seemed helpless to do anything about it, which was slightly annoying as we were paying $400 dollars a night for a double room, so not cheap. We were assured that this was a one-off, but the management were not prepared to compensate us for the lack of sleep. This almost ruined the experience for us but on balance it was a fabulous place to stay and highly recommended.

Just check before booking that there aren't going to be any nearby all-night parties, and if there are that you wil require compensation.
